@Typhoner - thanks man, was looking (not that hard apparently) for a Szechuan link specifically since it's the first track that really gives a good example of the sound. Shanghai Freeway is the biggest "wow" moment on here so I was avoiding that one purposefully, but I don't have any problem with people checking it out really.

Gotta check out SD Laika soon, Visionist's new release is on p4k advance too which sounded great from what I sampled.

I was sort of "broken in" with her Desert Strike EP, but it takes a bit for some of this to sink in. A lot of the mood and aesthetics here are formed in really nontraditional ways - brief little synth flutters here and there that cast a different light on things, the unique instrumentation and the colorful tonality of things that are being used primarily as percussive elements - it all kind of departs from a lot of traditional elements that form the aesthetic of mood-based electronic music, which usually has a lot of dense layers, reverberation and omnipresent or lingering walls of sound that hover around the track. Most of what's here is so momentary that it can kind of be overlooked on quick listens, but it's the unique approach that makes this such a standout for me (and all the staccato work here makes stuff like the little feathery choral patterns that stick around a little longer on Shenzhen stand out so much).

Szechuan is a really nice track and actually what got me excited for this album (besides some really interesting interviews with Al Qadiri). A first listen of the album as whole came off as a bit samey overall but on the other hand I do like its overall "lightness" and melody. So I certainly want to hear it again a few times to let it sink in a bit.

I'm not familiar with her previous work, but I'll check out Desert Strike of I get the chance.

Desert Strike EP is also highly recommended for anyone who likes this. Similar approach but a very different mood - more dark and brooding.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of her two EPs, but it's still suiting

idk it's just like paper-thin but whereas some other grime is really good at "thin" shit this is just kind of boring, like it got bogged down in the concept and didn't put as much energy into the music
