Nice review, pos'd! Also totally agree about the bad points you mention, the lack of variation and that annoying track near the end.

Enjoying this on the first few listens, you can't get enough FUZZ.

Thanks errybody. I'm not sure I'd call the debut a masterpiece, it wasn't that original, but it was maybe more varied than this. I do need to re-listen though

@Mad.

You gave 5.0 to new Gazpacho record, what's original about that album ?

@Spaceman I can't seem to find it anywhere which is annoying but other people seem to have got their hands on it from various... sources...

@AngryNeighbour Well you'd be hard pressed to find a band that sounds quite like Gazpacho for a start. Plus there's the Celtic influences with the mandolin/violin/cello use, the accordion, the creepy HP Lovecraft-esque atmosphere, how unconventional the song structures and lengths are, the album's concept, how they manage to create prog that manages not to fall under easy boundaries like 'neo-prog'... etc

I'm just saying that MRS hadn't carved out a sound that interesting/not done-before in the psychedelic genre. I still 4'd the album and it's awesome stuff

Well prog is very varied genre and I'm pretty sure that they've used some ideas from the earlier bands, but really doesn't matter if they invented their style by themselves if the music is good.

Sure, MRS hadn't invented something new, they just did it in the right way (for me).

So imo, their first record is that good - doesn't have any flaws, it creates an unique atmosphere and emotion (some of those are discerned on new record).

And that's all, it doesn't have any particular concept or message, it is done in the way I can't really find anything bad about. It sounds a bit dumb I know, but that is why I like it so much.

Ok, I'll relisten that Gazpacho album, especially because that Lovecraft-esque atmosphere (which i haven't really noticed tbh).

Whilst listening, I was aware that they can do it, they offered a lot.. but it sounded like they've chosen the wrong path to progress the songs.

Yeah man, stoner-rock is one of my favourite genres but it's hardly original, which is what makes original records so important. MRS definitely have their own atmosphere going on, if they could change up the song structures a bit (less like riff-verse-riff-chorus-riff etc.) then they could be seriously awesome.

Gazpacho are probably one of the most original - and best - prog acts out there at the moment. Demon takes a while to grow, it didn't strike me as much the first time round either, but the more you hear it the more the songs and their structures make sense and it's so rewarding.
