Haven't listened to this album yet but because I'm a big IQ fan I know there's a good chance I won't be disappointed. Also, I hear the band are working on feature-length film version of Subterranea.

Really well-written review too.

Yeah the t/t definitely sounds Porcupine Tree

Stevie Wilson probably mixed the album

What's the concept of Subterranea?

@fromtheinside yes not a bad place to start, work backwards if you like it and try the first two too but avoid late 80s stuff

@calc yes it was meant a tiny bit the way you suggest, there is a bit of a cold calculating aspect to some of it in contrast to their early stuff which was warts an all passion but these guys have been going for ages so can forgive them that

@cap not sure if this is really your thing but some if it might appeal

@insurr didnt know you liked this sort of stuff, this beats dark matter

Band have lots of great albums.

Tales from the Lush Attic,

The Wake,

Ever,

Subterranea,

The Seventh House

and I need to relisten to Dark Matter (I have to recheck all of them)

Even if the singer evidently forces his voice to sound like Gabriel, he puts his own signature in.

Great review, mena.

thanks jethro, yes they've done a lot of good stuff, might go on a binge but ill avoid Nomzamo and Sitting comfortably just too poppy

Yeah I kinda like the singer. He's not as Gabriel sounding as Fish.

Yeh lush attic is great, got a sort of naive charm.

Listened to The Wake again earlier and it still feels quite disturbing especially on songs like Widow's Peak.

Like many other IQ songs, Widow's Peak could be a Fish era Marillion song. Really a dark one.

Didn't exactly like Dark Matter, but Subterranea is quite an amazing journey. Might check this out.
