I guess that the only real way I can make sense of his death to myself, aside from writing about it here, is by understanding it through his music. Much of Double Cup takes on sinister undertones, colored by Rashad’s unforeseen passing: the haywire heart-rate-monitor synth in “I Don’t Give a Fuck,” the “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die” mentality of “Drank, Kush, Barz,” the robotic vocoder repetition in “I’m Too Hi.”
This is a great moment here: the kind of "live for the moment", "play fast and die hard" rebound effect

This is fucking sad. It seems like it's the first time something bad happens to Hyperdub in years.

"We shouldn’t need affirmation or closure when it comes to DJ Rashad, because his music was always on the move, thriving on its openness to hybridization and collaboration."

A great piece, Will.
DJ Rashad was a pioneer, his presence will be sorely missed.

ugh thinking about it more i just get sadder because this album really struck me in that particular "wow, can't wait to see where he goes next" way--like some of these songs brim so much with potential for something Even Better and i feel like his next few albums would have kicked so much ass. but this is great nonetheless. "pass that shit" all day

@robertsona Yes!! The album is littered with moments like that. Personally, 'Pass That Shit' is one of my favourites. The way the drums build, and then the synth melody hits, then the drums slow.... so effective.
One thing that I loved about DJ Rashad was that throughout his albums and EPs there was a noticeable progression in his production and actual sound.
