"Don't bother with it @Ali, it's as good as the Rust in Peace reissue"

I had a feeling it wouldn't be worth it, especially the fact that they remastered it (for the second time). Loudness wars and shit.

You are never a true member of Sputnik until you are criticized for your taste by Hep Kat. Stay true, dude. #jointhesputclub

Quoting Slavoj Žižek in a review? That's pretty cool.

Agreed. This bored the crap out of me when I first heard it, and it bores the crap out of me even now. I do like NY state of mind but outside of that, nothing doing. Very overrated.

Not that this is really a classic album in my life either (though I recognise it as a classic album in general and an important part of music history) but I feel like some of your criticisms of the album, like its lack of social responsibility, are part of what makes this album the classic it is. This album immerses you in the mind of Nasir Jones at the time it was written (haha); who he was and the way things were where he was at both physically and mentally. If he tried to do more than just show that and make more 'social commentary' on what was going on around him it wouldn't be the same tightly structured, immersive experience and therefore would be a completely different album to the one we know today. And I mean like, come on man, it's not like rap music has to be socially conscious to be good; I'm personally glad he didn't try to take that approach here. I also don't feel like this album makes the negative aspects of the lifestyle portrayed seem fashionable or cool; he just tells it like it is which I think is the most important thing of all
