haven't read the review since the edits were made but it was very non sequitur with contradictions. not raging because of rating, just being honest.
mongi: holy shit, i can't believe i just saw someone recommend the autumn effect. that album brings back some memories. title track is still really good

Gyro that album is a hard 5 for me. I've never heard so much emotion delivered from an alt metal band it's crazy. It's flow is perfect and has a great raw sound. Plus it grew and grew on my over the years too haha

After sifting through your review's points, it seems like the sole reason for you writing it was to write a negative review. Perfectly understandable if you just don't care for the sound of Chevelle, but claims like "hitting rock bottom on hats off.." are obviously limited to your opinion if not totally false. Hats off had mainstream success with "Face to The Floor" and the title-track and many fans saw it as the continued progress of SciFi Crimes. Way to attack Jawbreaker too. Sure Pete's "Jawbreaker jawbreaker" chorus lyrics are weak, but you seem to be missing a key change the band made with La Gargola, and that is to lighten the focus and attention on lyrics and singing, and shine the spotlight on the riffs, which crunch and grind harder and smoother than anything these guys have done before. I'd throw some more support in that review.

It's...a review, which is an opinion piece.

That means nothing to me, since I'm not one of those fans. I though it was a slightly above-average album, which is way less than what I expected from the band at the time. Again, opinions.
Also, I can acknowledge that maybe Chevelle's adopted a more riff-focused sound intentionally...but intention doesn't always translate to success. Their riffs may be crunchy, but they don't engage me. So I have no desire to "throw some more support" in my review. This is how opinions work. Just because mine is different doesn't mean it's wrong, or the review is bad. It's one thing to point out times when I don't defend points well or my writing gets sloppy -- and many have done so, and I'm thankful. It's entirely another to say "Because you don't like this album that I like, your review is invalid and wrong," which is the vibe I'm getting from you right now.

Never said your review was wrong but what in the world makes you believe "Hats Off" was hitting rock bottom? If you're speaking in terms of your taste toward the album then explain, because otherwise they turned Hats off into a bit of a success, and usually hitting rick bottom means being unsuccessful. Otherwise your review title is funny but would've been funnier for that album.

Rock bottom musically. I thought the majority of that album was stagnant and forgettable, and Chevelle would have to change to continue to exist. They did change. Their change, in my opinion, was for the worse, hence this 2 review.

Gotcha. I disagree, I think there's a lot of innovative cuts on Hats off. "The Meddler" and "Same Old Trip" particularly, but I can see eye-to-eye with anyone who doesn't like that record. I feel like La Gargola is definitely an improvement though
