Pretty good review, can't really comment on how accurate the terminology is since I don't listen to metalcore and am not planning on checking this album out. That being said:

No need to make the sentence about the lyrics its own paragraph. It works just as well as part of the following one. One thing you'll notice about experienced reviewers is that they hardly, if ever, use one-sentence paragraphs. If you want to do that, you have to make sure that sentence is weighty enough.

The sudden switch to first person in the paragraph about drumming is kind of unnecessary. There's no reason you have to specify it's your own opinion (it's your review, after all) unless you really want to make it clear it's something you think. Here, you may as well just say something like "the drumming wasn't noteworthy, but now is attention-grabbing" or something similar.

Something you should definitely think about: it's worth considering how to tie paragraphs together. You're not doing track-by-track reviews, which is great, but you sometimes hop from one subject to the next without flow. For example, check this review out: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/61405/Hagana-One-Year/. It's the most recent staff review (from the inimitable Jom), and what you'll find is that each paragraph leads into the next. One of the toughest things when writing about music on Sput (aside from finding a voice that works for you) is figuring out some sort of intangible concept of "flow," but as you write more you'll understand it better.

That said, this was solid - have a pos. I'd love to see you keep writing, and shoutbox me if you ever want me to give more feedback. Good luck, and I hope to see you around again!

the first album was far and away their best. they've been consistently generic with some bright spots scattered throughout after, which is what I met.

I've heard quite a few people say that, but as much as I dig it, I can't get into Sleepwalking as much as I can The Hollow or

Challenger.

I fixed some of the things Apollo and Brostep pointed out; I didn't wanna change much about the review as a whole, but since

Brostep pointed it out, the sudden switch to first person was bugging the shit out of me.

I'm gonna leave it alone for real this time, barring any glaring grammar or structure errors I overlooked.

I have read tons of reviews on albums and yours was pretty good. Actually I liked it a lot, cause I agreed with it. I posted on facebook this about the album "if you're big into metal-core or whatever it's call now... and in between the ages of 14-18 and part of your church's youth group... THIS WILL BE YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM OF THE YEAR."

they have found their niche market, sound, and voice

and I can't fault them for it... they seem to be enjoying making different versions of the same song and they're definitely packing venues.... I'd go see them if they were in town. They're a great band, and a great live show. Just this new album will get about a week in rotation on the ipod and then I'll go back to "the hollow" when I want some MMF

^It's streaming on MMF's youtube.

Album is not very good, definitely their worst. Matty's vocals are surprisingly better but him going full on jesus mode nullifies that pretty quick. There are some good tracks (Sleepless Nights, The Rose) but the rest range from forgettable to plain bad. The breakdowns of Possibilities and Pharisees were laughably bad.

Good God this band has literally been writing the same song for four years.

Four. Years.

Pretty bad album, and the lyrics are hilariously terrible and at times extremely hypocritical. Matty telling anyone to keep their self righteous mouths shut is just... Well you all know.

"they have found their niche market, sound, and voice"

Steven, although I'm certainly not between the ages of 14-18 or in a youth group, that was kinda the point I was trying to make. While it doesn't completely excuse the band from being generic, it's pretty obvious who the target audience is. And you're right. I've seen MMF 3 times live and they put on an AMAZING show.

Snide, I'm surprised you like this so much.

Durrzo, I had less problems with the lyrics on this album than the egotistical and cocky lyrics on Challenger.

4 negs tho?
