Well, that is true. But I noticed that this album has acquired double the number of ratings it had when I posted this review.

At least they know what bad death metal music sounds like and they learned their lesson.

ok, confession time, I actually can bare this but I don't particularly like it. The vocals are sooo so so bad but the instrumentation is ok.
"Did the vocalist just gurgle semen and snort like a pig while his friend jacks off on the snare drum? You should rename the song jacking pig cum gurgling evisceration plague." - Some guy on youtube who has the right idea

album slays. amazingly daring, disgusting, bizarre death metal that speaks to the stars with its surreal and innovative execution. the feeling i get when hearing this is like listening to a really good free jazz album. never been this impressed by slam before.

now, i understand the hate for this, but i implore those who hate to listen again.... this is the precise opposite of repetitive. what emnity do here is they push death metal into a place where it becomes high art that is so poignant, so focused on iits own goals that it becomes almost a different genre than death metal. this was a watershed moment in the history of dm

dang... i took a bit of time off from this but holy jesus fuck.... this is some of the juiciest metal around. the drum production, sludgy textured as-fuck riffs, the vocals.... it all makes for a weird and divine journey into the unknown.

This is simultaneously the worst brutal death metal album and the best
Love it

Summit's waxing aside, trying to make the ugliest, most unmelodic metal in existence (without delving into straight-up non-music) warrants at least some respect. Don't know anything prior to 2005 that dragged its knuckles quite like this.
Pity it's boring as hell.

It's a strange case this album
I can see why some people would give it a 1 and I can see why some people would give it a 5; it's like I agree with every argument for and against - and I know that in itself doesn't even make sense
In terms of ugliest, most unmelodic metal out there I do feel that Last Days of Humanity - which does step foot in the non-music realm - tops this
Though LDoH didn't make me feel as genuinely nauseous as this did

Last Days kinda fill a different niche in that they're an absurdly OTT hodgepodge of metal, grind and noise. Whether or not their music is "uglier" I dunno, subjectivity, yada yada. Not sure how much of Last Days' stuff is written and/or improvised, but at very least it's coordinated to some extent.
This on the other hand lacks any interplay between the obviously programmed, stupid-steady drums and the sloppily played, scooped guitars. There's also no disguising any unresolved riffs or choppy songwriting cause of the lack of noise, etc. It's a perfect storm of terribleness. I know this is all "the point" but while it's funny for a couple minutes at a time, it's really stagnant over half an hour in a way Last Days aren't for me.
|
| |
Yeah there's obviously a difference between the two bands in outcome/reaction as well
Last Days tears open your eardrums and bashes in your head because it's basically an onslaught of distortion, snare and pitch-shifting trickery
Enmity on the other hand keeps this steady stream that either annoys you or makes you queasy

Surprised this is at a 2.2 here and rym nearly has it at 2.9. One of my favorite metal albums atm. Pure sludge madness.
