This album is amazing, but I like his debut EP Family even better. It almost has a Elliott
Smith air to it.

"ull of loss and uncertainty, heartache and sacrifice, asking questions we'd rather not know the answers to."
This sounds right up my alley

Good writeup man.

I checked the title track, but it didn't grab me tbh. Musically, it's way too clean and his voice doesn't sound sincere to me. The lyrics are pretty good though.

Check out "Fire" off his Family EP. Might get you hooked.

Will do.

On a sidenote, I'm not sure I agree with your last sentence:

Because after all, isn't the way a storyteller tells his tale less important than the tale itself?

The music and the way a song is sung can really lay bare some nuances or enhance the overall feeling of what's being said. Or even turn the exact meaning of the lyrics as they're written upside down.

Good criticism! I think the sentence is largely true in folk, but you make a great point about music as a whole not necessarily following that. I didn't think about lyrics sung sarcastically or music that purposefully blurs its meaning. I think those cases are generally outliers though.

Friends and I covered Poor Man's Son this afternoon. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous song... hope this does it justice.

One of the best folk music artists of the decade in my book. Can’t wait for his new album!
