It amazes me that black metal enthusiasts have the audacity to criticize how genericore bands dress when their genre of choice's personality is probably a hundred times more embarrassing.

I agree with the review. I like my black metal super serious!
Jokes aside, band really sucks (judging by a few tracks). Don't know why people are taking the review out of context (looking at you Shuyin). Who gives a flying fuck if he doesn't find this fun.

Btw your conclusion was unnecessary. It was not a good ending to your overall nice review.

I neither know nor care whether Carach Angren intend for their lyrics to be taken halfway seriously. I do not believe they intend to frighten us with them, though; that's just a silly aspiration. All that aside, I absolutely love this album. It stands head and shoulders above Lammendam and Where the Corpses Sink Forever, in my mind. "Bloodstains on the Captain's Log" is an amazing song.

It is a silly aspiration. That's why they failed so hard. But I think you're wrong to say it wasn't
their intention.
I listened to Lammendam and thought it was also pretty bad, but somewhat better than this album. I
haven't listened to Where the Corpses Sink Forever and don't intend to.

Corpses is beter than this, less cheesey.
And decent lyrics, so over the top they get fun.

I'll put it on my list to check out eventually. Everything about this band has just been a crushing disappointment, so I'll go into it not expecting much. DON'T LET ME DOWN EVREAIA.
Honestly though, I'll never understand the rave reviews this band gets. I'm among the 9 people that gave this less than a 3 rating. It's the same on other websites. *shrugz*

Finally someone gets it! This may be superior to modern Dimmu, but that's still not saying much. Flat, emotionally sterile symphonic black metal for kids that are too cool for Cradle of Filth.
