They have always been pretty simple musically. But they pull it off better than anyone else I can think of!
KNY is definitely not their best. I also think that SNW is their worst, but in saying that, it is still an amazing album. They dont have a dud out there.

Adrenaline nig, best Deftones hands down for me. I remember first seeing and hearing Bored on the box back in Jr. High. Changed my life and is solely responsible for getting me into music the way I am.

I think saying that KNY is their best album is a stretch. I like it a lot but its not as good as
Diamond Eyes or White Pony. And I feel SNW is their most underrated. In general Deftones have a
spectacular discography.

ummm actually SNW is the album that they don't like, because of the toll the writing process took on their chemistry and how it drove them apart. if they dont like this album, this is the first ive heard of it. and this is an early deftones album, so idk why you keep saying they "go back to their roots" or "make an album like white pony" when white pony was the last album they made. This is album where they shifted from the ATF/WP sound and made it bigger, which continued to develop (Koi No Yokan). at least you talk about lovers, that song rules

? no man, I never 'kept saying' make an album like white pony. I said in just a single line that it's darker and heavier, like their
roots (more so than white pony). Besides, SNW is the album that nearly broke them up. Deftones didn't like the s/t either,
there's a reason they toured so little for it, in comparison to their other album tours.

Self-titled is my least favorite Deftones studio album, but it's still a blast to play. "Bloody Cape" is a monster track.

@IslamicPenguins, yes, me too, this album was the first of theirs I ever bought (that sexy art suckered me right in.) And I always used to defend it even after I'd heard the others. actually have quite a bit of sentimental value for it

review's not too lengthy.
The intro was perfect. I remember loving this album when i was younger, but also feeling a bit of hate towards it. I remember reading in my Guitar World magazine about how the interviewer went into their studio, they were all smoking pot, and Chino played the intro and verse to Needles and Pins. As the song continued, he looked back at the interviewer with a smug smile, proud of his accomplishment.
and i'd always listen to that song and think, "am i just not getting it?"
albums decent though. i love how dark it feels. oh an SNW is one of their best albums.
