No but such attributes (that which I mentioned in brackets) can make an album harder to appreciate for a first time listener.

such attributes are also temporal, when Grassow eschews diversity it is to progressively harmonize and dilate elements conscerning texture and arrangement but they cannot be grasped by an impatient ear ( although it can be argued unattentiveness isn't present in physiology but psychology) and the hearing unpaired. don't draw conclusions..

Need to check.

This is true but so is what I said in my previous comment (notice the word can). I'm not drawing conclusions at all, I'm just giving my opinion on how accessible I perceive the album to be based on attributes that I know might be off putting to some people.

Great write-up as well, man. I can definitely tell you were doing some introspection with this.

Thanks man, I'm glad you appreciated it. I want sure how well this review would be received seeing as it's quite a personal interpretation of the album and might seem somewhat pretentious to some.

Definitely not pretentious. This music was made to dive into yourself.

Good review, man! Sorry it took so long for me to read this. There are a few things that could be fixed; for instance, I'd recommend combining the first two paragraphs since they apply to a similar subject. Also, there are a few grammatical issues here are there, such as:
"First track, Breathing of the Heart"
When applied to the rest of the sentence, removing the comma will make it flow better.
"Grassow’s 2007 album, Transpersonal, manages to bring out the thoughts of one’s own imagination and simultaneously conjure up imagery that whilst unique to each individual listener, is shaped to a certain degree by the album itself."
There should be a comma between "that" and "whilst"
Also, I'd suggest paring down some of the imagery; I've been guilty of this before as well in the past. While the "mental image" concept is cool and I like where you went with it, describing so much of the album's vibe gets a bit overbearing after a while.
Otherwise, really nice review. Some of this is nitpicking, specifically in the grammatical department, so the errors aren't too common or anything. Hope this helps. Gonna pos :]

And yeah, you convinced me to check this for sure. Sounds like it's right up my alley

I really need to check this out. Been really digging ambient black metal so anything with ambience is prolly a plus for me

@Necro: Thanks for the feedback man, much appreciated. I'll fix those little errors tomorrow. As for the mental imagery concept, that was the main thing I wanted to write about for this as it's a concept that interests me greatly and this album's relation to that concept is one of the main reasons why love this album so much. This review was very much written for myself, for my own personal enjoyment, in fact I even said to user CosmicPie that I was considering not posting it (for the very reason you mentioned - going a bit too far with the conceptual side of it) but he encouraged me to do so. So the fact that some people enjoyed the review is a bonus.
|
| |
I'm glad you posted it then. I like when people have a more personal touch to reviewing; for a while I was stuck in a rut of reviewing by just writing listless facts and information, and it got so boring :P
