I'm glad someone recognizes the beauty in this album/band's simplicity (at least in their first two albums).
The music here is more atmosphere/melody driven; the instruments are supplemental to the vocals and themes the band are bringing, and mixing with hip-hop; it's not so much about the instrumental virtuosity.
I might get some neg response for this, but think of The Roots. Rap that uses live instruments. They are more playful in their instruments than Linkin Park, sure, but The Roots isn't about being purely a rock band. And perhaps the same is for LP.
