There are some sentences in this review that could do with being broken up as they are simply too long. Makes it a bit of a chore to read in my opinion.



I still don't get the hype for this band at all. This album is definitely better than their last but it is still 'meh' at best to my ears. Personal gripe: why is it that when bands reach a certain level of technicality the person who writes the lyrics feels they must attempt to write some semi-cerebral clap trap about 'the universe being, like y'know, really big duuude'

DanielNight - yeah I tend to do that a lot as you've noticed. I guess I just kind of have a thing for avoiding too many unnecessary full stops in my writing because you often end up having to say also/furthermore/additionally repeatedly or restate the subject frequently, which becomes slightly pedantic & formulaic. Like I said I was also under the influence of illicit substances at the time - so naturally I just let my ideas flow as they came rather than attempting to adulterate them to any general formal literary standards.



I honestly think it still reads fine if you follow the punctuation & pacing, but yeah, it was never going to be a particularly easy read in the first place. Will go back over it later to see if I can improve some of those classic paragraph-long sentences for you though ha.



Also, as entitled as you are to your rating & opinion - I don't think it's fair to trivialise ERRA's lyrics in that manner. They have always been a strength for the band & despite being quite ambitious here, they fall short of outright pretentious & are genuinely thought-provoking at times. I don't claim that they're the best ever written, but you certainly couldn't criticise them for being derivative as they are definitely executed in an at least somewhat different vein to other bands.

I think it is perfectly valid to comment on the lyrics as they are pretty much as asinine as any others in this particular vein of metalcore. I would go as far as to say that it is heightened by the use of really clunky, cumbersome lines like "Coated by the stratified soil of my settlement" which appear at least once in every song. It really gives the feeling that the writer was sat with a thesaurus and a junior high science text book after watching a documentary on an alien origin of life theory.



I would go as far as to say that the lyrics are by far the worst thing about this release. Everything else is largely inoffensive to me and some parts are quite enjoyable but if I could give them some advice, it would be to hire a ghost writer.

I didn't imply that it was lazy at any point - I was merely commenting on the incidence of it & affirming the fact that it is actually a suitably astute manner in which to portray the bands progression. So much so that I felt compelled to do pretty much the same thing as you said, albeit with slightly different tact.

Alright well that's fair enough man, having looked at your ratings I'm able to understand why that is the case - so I don't blame you there if it's metalcore lyrics in general that you actually hate rather than this band's in particular. If you don't enjoy bands from the genre in the first place, then inevitably this release isn't going to do anything for you in that instance.

Yet if about every other guy has done it, doesn't that imply it's not a very creative route? The way you set it up makes it sound like you're going to contradict it and bring up a different point, which is why your agreement caught me off-guard

Yeah fair play, I get what you mean - but basically it was just me conceding that though that concept had already been used multiple times; it's nevertheless a valid observation & notion to make regarding the release. Certainly a bit lazy on my part, but I guess it was the first thing that came to mind at the time. In reality, I could have just left it out without any ill effect. It is an admittedly somewhat redundant intro by nature.
