Ghost are a great band, listen to 'Year Zero' and you'll see why. As for the lyrics being cheesy, I think that's the point. They go over the top with the whole satan thing, I mean, it was never really subtle.

I would tend to agree that musically they are actually pretty solid. There's enough random influences thrown in (70's metal, surf rock, choirs, etc) that they manage to build some pretty interesting melodies. Plus the whole super satanic gimmick is so over done that it's obviously a joke and I find it pretty amusing especially considering that some people are actually getting offended over it.
