The music is good enough in and of itself I guess. This type of music just isn't for me. Not really a fan of this folk-y music fad thats happening.

"Also, "Holy Branches" is totally the folk version of Portugal. The Man's "Creep in a T-shirt." "

This is so true! Wow. Listen to one after another and it's so easy to hear. I just saw Portugal. The Man 3 days ago, so it was fresh in my mind.

Great review and album! Good to see it on the front page.

@atari thanks man! Yea, apparently the name came from an advertisement that said "radical face-lifts!" but the "lifts!" part was ripped off. Just sounds funny.

Check out "The Gilded Hand" and "From the Mouth of an Injured Head." Those are the best for sure.

Indeed. only asked because it's almost necessary for people to hear that one before going into this one.

We're all still a part of everything that we were and we'll all float along with everything. and in turn, we'll all fall apart with everything, but we'll learn just what things are like outside our heads

His lyrics on this one are my favorite to date, save for a few sections that are a little too cheesy like the end of "Chains" with the whole "I'm glad you were my friend, but I'll never see you again." music is catchy though.

Ponton, Sleepwalking is definitely one of my favorite lyrical pieces. Ghost seems much more abstract and poetic in comparison to these Family Tree narratives. Love 'em all though.

damn, you're getting really, really good. review flows perfectly, you're really mastering the conversational tone.

As I've gotten older, it's gotten easier to write off every concept album as pretentious. And maybe that's just the cynicism that comes with age; the mindset that you sound a whole lot smarter if you, in your infinite wisdom of all things music, criticize a work, otherwise, God forbid, expose yourself to the vulnerability that comes with a positive reaction.

i love this bit in particular, but i think there should be a full stop in there, or a sentence reworking - just near the end, after 'criticize a work'

it's part of the same topic, but it reads like a non sequitur

never mind, i just re-read it and it makes perfect sense, the commas just confused me a little.

haha thanks man, appreciate it. The conversational tone just comes the most naturally to me, but I'm not sure if it's necessarily stronger writing than the more formal, objective stuff most use. Either way, glad you liked it!
