Not sure why I forced myself to listen to this. Bland riffs after bland riffs for 58 minutes.

This is the first album I've ever listened to by these guys. Diggin' it though.

Can't see myself listening to the new one but this is a solid groove/death metal album

So I'm a bit late to realizing that this album actually kinda fucking rules.

I've had this as background music for like 4 years and I liked it fine, don't get me wrong, it's just... it finally clicked.
Also a fun fact, I listened to Enslaved for the first time recently and it was pretty damn good! I skipped it entirely when it came out because Omen was such a god-awful dogshit follow-up to Conquer. Sadly, since Archangel was pretty fucking lame after this, RIP Soulfly I guess... Oh well, at least Cavalera Conspiracy is still good.

I enjoy Archangel, still amazes me that it has a higher average than this though. In fact this is the second lowest for some ungodly reason.

this is heaps better than the first bunch of Soulfly albums... for me the golden trilogy of Soulfly was always Prophecy, Dark Ages, Conquer. They totally nailed 3 albums in succession topping themselves every time, pretty remarkable for a band that started as a shitty 4 chord nu-metal band. But Archangel is weak stuff man. A couple good tunes, but the album as a whole is below this band's pay grade.
Lastly, Marc Rizzo is a motherfucking wizard! If you track the dude's improvement over albums when it comes to leads, it's pretty nuts. His skill has grown immense and he has such a sick unique style. You always know a Rizzo solo.

Since dark ages, Max improved A LOT. and I don't disrespect his tribal experimentation in the first albums but he became more technical and that I appreciated it more than the common song structure of the first albums.

Dark Ages was a great record. I almost feel foolish admitting this but Staystrong actually makes me choke up a little to this day. Feels very weird saying that about a Soulfly song since they're not that emotionally charged usually. But that song cuts pretty deep.

Also Soulfly V, the instrumental closer on that album is the best thing they've ever done by a long stretch. The 1-2 punch of Staystrong and that as the clincher is pretty hard to beat.

Having only recently listened to this one, Conquer, and Enslaved for the first time, I must agree. This was my favourite to listen to.
I couldn't find a lot of catchy tunes in Conquer which is always billed as the last of the trilogy which starts with Prophecy.; and both Prophecy and Dark Ages are by far my most listened to Soulfly records.
I found Enslaved really underwhelming, sure it's going for a more extreme sound, but found so many duds on it like Gladiator, American Steel, Plata o Plomo.
So let's go for Savages' redemption arc! I'm enjoying the longer tracks on it.

@ScuroFantasma
My top three are Prophecy, Dark Ages and Savages.
I enjoyed Archangel, Totem and Ritual.
I think Conquer, Omen and Enslaved are good but I don't listen to them too often.
I don't like the first three albums.
