I know, that's sort of what I was going for anyway. And what are the albums you've been disappointed with (just curious, seeing as how I probably haven't heard about half of them)?
Immolation was by far the biggest disappointment followed by the overrated Ulcerate and Gorguts. The latter two albums really didn't add much to something we haven't already heard. I was looking forward to all three of those albums! Oh well, this year has been full of surprises. Who would have thought new Voivod would crush one out of the park?
Probably going to have the most eccentric end-of-the-year-list for metal.

Probably won't have an accurate/comprehensive end-of-the-year list because I haven't listened to enough albums haha. Immolation was ok, haven't heard the two others. Gorguts has been sitting on my playlist for about a month now, but I still haven't given it a full listen - I should rectify that soon. The big shocker here is that I didn't really get that into Ulcerate's sophomore so I was in no hurry to get to their new one either.

Decent but pretty boring
I don't think 'boring' is the right description, DevilDriver has always been that consistently consistent band. You could understand a level of same-y-ness from album to album. It's still solid enough to listen to but there's always the fact that the guys don't deviate too far from what they've already done.

Well 'boring' is the right description to me bro.

I'd probably like this more if every song didn't sound the god damn same.

these dudes are like amon amarth in that they've been putting out the same boring album for years. won't be bothering with this

I don't know, I don't remember whether you liked some of their other stuff or loathed it. This album still has their distinct sound on it and though it's a little darker and also more relentless it wont be a game changer for those who didn't like the band before.

Fury was probably their most "unique" album. Gonna have to jam it again.

Dez is the weakest aspect of this band. He seems especially spazy on this release

Some fun trivia: my dad's doctor is the father of this band's lead guitarist, Kendrick
Also is this worth hearing? I loved Beast and My last Words but they had tons of filler. Does this improve on that at all?

I'd say no. I liked this band's earlier stuff but I turned this record off about 2/3 of the way through as it was boring me.
