not sure about the 'caricatures being conjured' on the previous album as a way to distinguish it from this one. one could make the argument that Ghetto Woman is an obvious throwback/homage to 70s era Stevie Wonder and is as derivative as anything on The ArchAndroid? Dorothy Dandridge Eyes is pretty reminiscent of MJ's 'I Can't Help It' too, which Esperanza covered.

No, you're completely right. I may not have explained myself as well as I could have.

Both albums are fairly widely-spanning in terms of styles. I'd say the previous one was even more so than this, even though there are tracks like "Ghetto Woman". However, this sounds like Janelle Monae's getting personal, instead of making music that's solely about her noted concept. This sounds like something she's wanted to make for herself for quite some time, and I feel that way because I hear her opening up on this thing over anything else.

Thank you, Eli. < 3 have you heard it a fair bit?

REALLY DIG THIS REVIEW it's basically how I feel exactly. I do think ArchAndroid was more interesting in how it

experiments within the genre, but this feels a lot more natural and warm in a way that shows for both the

instrumentation and the vocals. And more importantly, the booty don't lie.

And naturally, really dig the album. ¡Janelle Monae!

Suite IV is the best of all suites so far. The only song I don't absolutely love is the duett with miguel.

Suite V is noooot that great, but it has ghetto woman.
