Album Rating: 3.7

Following their 2009 dalliance with electronica, Scots Franz Ferdinand return to their roots on 4th LP 'Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action'. The angular guitar hooks & catchy choruses of their superb debut are back, as is the focus on danceable, guitar-driven indie-rock. Alex Kapranos' wry lyrics assist replay value, although the album might just be too immediate. Despite little experimentation, the simplicity often works in the quartets favor... It's just that the effortless melodies occasionally veer towards cruise-control, meaning filler does exist on this otherwise satisfying 35 minutes worth. Recommended Tracks: Love Illumination, Evil Eye, Right Action & Bullet.

I had to give this album the lowest rating possible. Nothing else can express my sheer anger at the cowardly passivity of Franz Ferdinand in creating this lazy ass piece of junk. The catchiness of two songs on this album don't even begin to compensate for the hastily thrown together filler, B side standard garbage that makes up everything else (even the two 'decent' songs I am referring to bored the hell out of me after a while). Franz Ferdinand have proven with 'Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action' that they no longer believe in themselves a band capable of making good music. They (like many before them) have 'retired' from making good music and will now only throw out an album every few years as an excuse to tour and make some money.

LOL at the angry guy above. This album is kind of unimpeachably 3.5. Solid as fuck. If this is the sound of humans not trying, then I'm never trying again.

Only dug a few of these tracks. Overall felt like the band was just riding through the motions just for a check.

like they had their smash debut, they had their hasty sophomore album, they had their less successful 'experimental' record where things got dancier... and then they brought it all home for this. A snappy fourth album that is stylistically pretty close to their original sound, but weirder and wiser, the sound of five well-traveled guys coming back to where they started, full circle and all that
