Good review dude, I'm feeling a 3.5 is a little high for this though.

Nice review, I agree with most of your points. This though - "LaBrie never tries to attempt what his parent band performs on a regular basis. Instead the offspring has grown to hate his father and his ways" - sounds like you're saying LaBrie dislikes being in DT, which is not true at all.
He did write some excellent DT songs such as "Sacrificed Sons", "Blind Faith" and parts of "Octavarium", but the lyrics in general are poor here and the album lacks "bite".

Don't get me wrong though, this is still an enjoyable album and the first 3 tracks all rule.

He is still excellent now if you see him in concert. He pulled off Surrounded note for note.

I actually really like this album, but there is one song that I absolutely hate. That song would be Back on the Ground and the reason is because of the cheesy generic lyrics. Reminds me of something I would hear in the waiting room at the dentist's office. Otherwise, it's a pretty enjoyable listen.

Pretty good rating for a pretty enjoyable listen

I've listened to this like 6 or 7 times and I don't think I've ever paid attention to the lyrics.
