YES Jack Rose was so brilliant, Kensington Blues is prob like one of my most-played albums over the past year-ish, perfect to throw on while cooking or cleaning

I know little about American primitivism and what it's supposed to sound like, so forgive this review because I don't know what I'm talking about.

So what we have is Kottke here grinding away at his acoustic guitar; fourteen short pieces that come and go without any time to develop. I don't know if the purpose of the album is to create an atmosphere or if it's just to show off his chops; if the former, the album fails, as the songwriting is disjointed and random, and has no time to come together and form anything as a whole; if the latter, the album is wildly successful, as he's immensely skilled and it really shows.

So basically it's like a prog album!

I WISH I WAS JOKING

yeah I gotta check way more classic American primitive/solo guitar artists. Lately I'm jamming a lot of more recent drone/ambient Americana that was def inspired by a lot of this older stuff.

hell yeah. recently ive been going back even further and checking out the country/blues/folk music of the 20s-40s who influenced fahey and the others. ive neglected that stuff despite loving country from the 50s onward so its been quite fruitful

My ratings don't reflect it but I love a lot of old school blues, in undergrad I was president of my school's radio's Blues department for a few semesters 😎
