are you guys fucking kidding me?
not even close to worst band name or album art.

The band name is cheesy but the album art is fine I dont get it.
|
| |
i'm not saying the art is the worst of all time...but the art/album title/font combo is pretty close to it

The shallow end of the cliché pool.

I'm neutral on the cover art. The band & album name; I'm not a fan of.
omik, I agree that Dustin is definitely a talented vocalist, although I do think he takes a little while getting used to. The nasally part of his voice can be initially off-putting, but it doesn't take long to realize it's not that bad & he makes it work for most songs.
You should like this Atari, although I think you may feel that they should have pushed the heavier side of their sound a little more.
@Daedus, everything can be seen by someone as a cliche nowadays. They definitely don't do anything too innovative & their lyrics haven't really improved a great deal since their debut EP, but I think they execute everything really well. At the very least, they should be more well known than they are.

Oh, I am so gonna listen to this. Davey's recommendations have been very good to me. Plus, I need to develop my newfound love of pop punk.

Woohoo, someone that listens to my recos.

people are being weirdly critical of the band name/album name/album artwork

Something to say, I guess.
As opposed to something to smile about.

The only pop punk-y stuff I have heard in the last couple years I have liked are Bayside and Icarus the Owl. But Davey gave this a pretty good rating...
Edit: Oh wow. The vocals are actually quite good. Lyrics were a little cheesy on Growing Up, but it was a solid song.

This isn't anywhere near as innovative as those 2 bands Ec.
That's the thing, they overcome some cheesy lyrics time & time again on this album.

It's just kind of rare to find pop punk with good vocals, you know? But this guy has got a solid voice and might be enough to counteract some of those questionable lyrics, so I will probably end up listening more of this.

"good vocals" in pop punk is overrated. the problem isn't about having good vocals, it's not having childish stereotypical vocals.
|
| |
definitely think this sounds similar to fireworks..which is a good thing

Ec, while it's a generalization, I guess I'd agree with that on the whole.
"the problem isn't about having good vocals, it's not having childish stereotypical vocals". I think I know what you're getting at cyg, but it's in-built into the genre for the most part. It's like me saying I wish some of these death metal vocalists would sing something I can understand.
Yeah, on a scale of catchy vs heavy pop-punk, these guys are around about Hit the Lights & Fireworks. The growth they have shown here (on the 2nd half) is a little subtler than that of Fireworks' latest LP... and tbh, I think the smaller step works better.

I am sure there are more pop punk bands out there that have good singers (obvs I am not expecting everyone to sound like Dallas Green or something), but a lot of the ones that I have tried out that have been more on the well received side in the last few years just don't appeal to me vocally.
If I am unable to get past not liking a singers voice, it doesn't matter how good the music is, I wont want to listen to said band.

Yeah, it's tricky to do so... Although, I do think that 1st impressions have to be ignored to some extent. There have been planet of singers who I initially haven't liked that I have got used to over the time. EG: Ben from Billy Talent.

and that's why an anthony green album could never be any higher than 2.0 for me.

Not even 'Translating the Name'!?!?!?

haven't heard it. violent waves is the only circa album I've listened to enough to decide on a rating, everything else turned me off so quickly that I couldn't bother with more listens.
