Avatar was better than this, but the music on both rule

Shouldn't this be under the Composers name?

Season 1 of Korra is way better than season 1 of Avatar, not a fair comparison mind you but people who watch the first few episodes of Avatar might not get the hype.

Really? People say that a lot but the pilot of avatar is one of my favorite episodes
|
| |
Yea in Korra the tone is already established and people know the world already. The first couple episodes of avatar are kinda childish and it's appropriate cause Aang doesn't know the stakes and we have to get to know the characters. By the end of season 1 the tone changes a lot and then you'll see the hype. That's how I view the show.

I think Avatar starts off fairly juvenile is because the creators are still, one, becoming more confident in their storytelling abilities and, two, trying to figure out the limitations of their network.
Season two is one of the best seasons of television I've ever seen. It puts its faith in its audience by refusing to pander to expectations and go places that might have sounded like suicide in a boardroom. Sometimes you have to take a step back and remember that Tales of Bah-Sing Se was technically an episode of a childrens show.

Dude really what even was that episode lol so emotional. I legit almost cried when they found Appa again. The best streak of episodes ever. The show gets fuckin amazing when Toph comes into the picture.
Also it technically is a childrens show but I refuse to call it that. It's just so goddamn mature and has so much emotional depth.

@Mongi - Nope, "Also it technically is a childrens show" sums it up for me (though I'm just not interested in general on top of that).

too bad acanthus, you're missing out but yeah if you're averse to anything resembling a child's show then i guess this isn't for you

@Acanthus The show is one thing, but I think you're missing out if you don't check this soundtrack out man. It's definitely intriguing enough to be worth a listen through. There's a ton of really exotic instruments employed here. According to Wikipedia there's a "dizi flute, paigu drums, a guqin and a Mongolian matouqin" all used on this album. There's also this Dixieland jazz orchestra he works with, it's pretty damn cool imo.
|
| |
@ Acanthus it is, without a doubt, the best children's series I have ever seen and I thought it actually had a mature look on things like the grief over a lost one, not being loved by your parent(s) etc
The relationship between Prince Zuko and his father is one of the best things about the show, inner conflicts and stuff

zuko is just an awesome character
zuko alone is an awesome episode

Who cares if its a children's show? Besides its got so much shit for adults in there too. The finale to season two is one of the darkest and devastating finales ever. Yea quite a children's show haha
|

I don't like the trend of childrens shows being a bit darker and having more adult humor/themes (see Adventure Time and many of the similarly animated shows); the catering to two audiences obviously works but for me it usually messes with the experience.
As far as Korra goes I've just not really given it a fair chance, the fans are rabid (as is the rule34 content) but I've been watching Fate/Zero as well as Attack On Titan so my show watching slots are filled at present and I don't feel like starting it right now.

"I don't like the trend of childrens shows being a bit darker and having more adult humor/themes (see Adventure Time and many of the similarly animated shows)"
Okay, I can understand the adult humor in Adventure Time, but the darker elements, I can't see that. I will never understand why Adventure Time is popular, I think it is one THE absolute worst shows ever, period.
As for avatar I do think some of the more childish jokes are really dumb (both in the original and Korra) but they're still awesome! The four-part finale in the original will remain as one of my favorite finales in any show.

Ancanthus, this trend has even around for a long fucking time. Spongebob started the trend with a lot of double meaning jokes that only adults could get. But even back in the 90s, animaniacs had a helluva lot of adult humor that seems so fucking obvious as you get older but would never get when you're a kid.
The humor in avatar 1 is far more whimsical and childish than either of the shows. But the themes generally tackle coming of age ones.
|
| |
Actually the series that started that shit was Ren & Stimpy bro, that one came out almost a whole
decade before Spongebob (it ended before Spongebob started too)
though that show was more of a test of how much shit you could get away with in a kids show than
anything lol
|

So you're saying that ancathus does dig most cartoons in the past 20 years?
Also
"give me the bird!"
"Believe us, we'd love to but our Fox network would never allow it. "
|

feel the need to check out adventure time at some point, though avatar has been my only previous
exception to not watching a "children's show" as an adult. the critical reception has been too immense
to ignore.
