Ryche suck at alt rock

I just checked wikipedia and the 2003 remastered edition features 15 plus 3 bonus live unplugged 1992 mtv performances, which btw I find great; check this out if you haven’t already:

Well look at that. I didn't know they had put "Chasing Blue Sky" on anything other than their game!

I like this one too much, considering my love for early Ryche.

You mean "Hear in the new frontier", or the unplugged version of "The killing words"?

I feel a bit guilty for enjoying "Hear in the Now Frontier" because I love all of their albums until Promised Land (included), and also none of my friends like this so that's even worse. I found a person rating this as their last truly good album though, so I guess I'm not that much of a weirdo in Ryche subject.

You should not offer excuses for something you like mate. I mean the only reason I would try to point out why I like something contrary to consensus would be in a review context; just to make my "difference of opinion" legit to the reader by presenting "hard fact" and arguments on why I think differently. Or I could chose the other way and troll em :P

It's okay, we don't fight over music (not always, at least! :P). It's just that typical moment when you are alone in liking something! Personally, I always thought that this is an evolution of Promised Land. Maybe not the best one, but I think that PL led to this with its sound.

PL had some some of the alt rock of this but was still very much a Queensryche album.

Well yeah, I can't deny that this feels meh when you are expecting a follow up to PL.

This is just Ryche trying to be something they're not

"Hit The Black" is probably the most Ryche track here, or at least the most PL-like.

We shouldn't neglect a decisive factor, actuating changes that took place during the 90s for Queensryche; the rapid and steady decline of Geoff Tate's vocal abilities hindered the songwriting potential of De Garmo imo. Even if they wanted, I don’t think Queensryche were able to sound as they sounded during the 80s. Popular music trends were also alluring tbh ;)

Queensryche will never be the same again. Todd said that the 2015 album will be heavier... we'll see what they'll do.

I'm more than happy just listening to their first 5 and the EP

Though Promise Land has its moments (I like the lyrics in PL), I also consider it an ominous warning regarding Geoff's voice.

I appreciate PL mainly for its theme, "Damaged" and "One More Time" bring back memories. Anyway, the first time I was really bugged by Tate's vocals is Mindcrime II.

Hmmm... range issues were obvious much earlier. Of course that doesn't mean it should bother you, but songwriting-wise it mattered for Queensryche as I said.

Yes, I agree, but I managed to bear with him because I thought "it was natural" (and because I enjoyed Tribe)... how can I say, there was a time where I could have defended everything they did. Mindcrime II was when I started caring less about Tate's Ryche, although I don't mind bits from American Soldier ("Man Down").
