i think this album is a bit of a pinkerton tbh. will take a while for people to get user to the fact that its a bit rough and isnt as epic as their other albums but its just a really good and honest collection of songs. i think its probably a classic. review isnt bad but its nothing too interesting. over time you will develop your own style so keep at it.

Yeah loving the album so far, although all the songs the reviewer listed as highlights are my least liked tracks. Each to their own I guess, Book of Love, Please Say No and You Were Good are fantastic.

This is the first time I've felt underwhelmed by JEW. Byebyelover is their first genuinely BAD song in 15years, and there's too much filler (Lean, Please Say No)...but strong cuts are pretty strong. Title track in particular

disagree about byebyelove being he first bad song in 15 years. have you heard mixtape and chase this light? eesh.

I love both those songs. Hell, I adore both those albums probably more than the rest of their discog. Which is why it's odd I
find this album disappointing, it's technically continuing on but with shittier song writing.
And at the very least they both had okay lyrics (I'd argue mixtape has genuinely good lyrics). Byebyelovers lyrics are awful.
It's weird that they're calling this their adult break up album, when Invented as a whole was way more adult about its lost love

what's wrong with byebyelove? Also, you were good is prolly my favorite

I don't know, the lyrics are shit by JEW standards, it's all so sappy and no catchiness to make up for any of that. Just tedious
"byebyelove" repeated ad naseum. I normally can't get enough of JEW, but I find myself waiting for that song to end.
Yeah, my favorites are the first two and that. I'm hoping this grows on me, as I know other of their albums have, but at the
moment it's disappointing in terms of songwriting. Plus, their lyrics are usually pretty mature and insightful and this mostly isn't
that either

byebyelove doesnt stand well on its own. but in the context of the albums concept and it being towards the end, byebyelove is like the big farewell to the relationship. it has to be grandiose and overblown because its like the finale to end a chapter in the storyteller's life. its like the true closer, with you were good acting as a reflective "epilogue" or sorts, looking back over what transpired in the relationship and where it went wrong. i feel like in the context of the story, you were good would fit a good while after the relationship ends when the character has had time to take it all in and rationalise. its simple and calm. whereas in byebyelove he is in the middle of it all and overwhelmed with emotion, hence why its such a big sounding song. it doesnt need complex lyrics because saying goodbye to someone is such a simple thing that doesnt need words. everything that needs to be said has been said in the 8 songs building up to it. maybe im reading too much into the concept but it feels like a genuine tale to me.

damn minty you should just write a review lol ;)

I think you're correct, but there are ways of doing that that are less sappy, silly sounding and tedious.

haha yeah i might write a review. jimmy eat world have been my obsession for 12 years but this is the first time ive REALLY connected with their lyrics so well. this is by far their best album thematically and lyrically and i think theres a lot to say about it beyond just how it sounds.

Ergh, dude. This is their shittest lyrically. Invented was the one I really, really connected with (movielike gets me every time) but mostly they're good. This is the first time the lyrics feel lazy and nothing special.
|
| |
you should def write a review

lol movielike is ok pretty sure you're on your own on this own captain north

It's alright, I'm usually on my own. Shit that seems so obvious to me confuses others and vice versa. Kinda used to no one ever agreeing with me
|

well at least you like the band, I just don't think it's a big step down like you do but I still need to give it some more spins
