I've always found this one bizarrely underrated, one of the best Beach House albums in my book

you always come to the parties to pluck the feathers off all the birds

I really feel like they lost something special after this; the warmth, the sense of music as fond embrace and cocoa in winter. Obviously the majority prefer the more maximal fireworks displays that would come later, and if people find something in that they adore that's great, and I mean I still have *this album*. But it is interesting (4 me, saddening,) to think about other forking paths

always thought devotion was stylistically the same as this and teen dream was the deviation toward their signature summer pop sound

that's probably a fair take! i have to admit i'm not suuuper familiar with devotion - listening now and maybe it's sort of a bridging album

Devotion is pretty smiliar but doesn't have quite the forlorn beachy depressed melancholic feel that his one has. I love almost all their records but this one is certainly special and I wish they had more stuff like this
