Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Alice In Chains' self titled album as much as I would've wanted to. It's not a bad album by any means, but I find it to be a bit underwhelming, especially considering such an amazing quality of Dirt, which came before, and MTV Unplugged, which came after. There are still some great tracks to be found, but overall I just think it's a nice album and not much more.

It's not very exciting or uplifiting music at all. I find I can only listenj to the whole thing when I'm in the right mood, and then it's just all kinds of awesome.

Shame In You is amazing, though.

Tbh I like this and Jar of Flies more than Dirt. I love their softer, more melancholic side

Only thing that really bugs me here are the vocals. Staley's vocals really aren't up to par, and Cantrell's are just nothing special really
Album's got lots of variety and a good handful of outstanding songs, though.

Dirt was always gonna be a tough act to follow, they were just trying some new stuff so as not to copy their last work but some of it didn't really work. Still a cool listen.

I agree. It's a very dark and murky sounding album but my biggest regret is that Layne Staley's once mighty voice is already clearly shot. The fact that his vocals are layered with different effects, and that Jerry Cantrell had to take the lead on a few songs is the biggest giveaway.
However, other than "Nothing Song", "Sludge Factory" and "So Close" the album is still AIC great.

sludge factory is pretty rad, but i agree with you on Layne's vocals being worn out here. tbh the album really falls short after shame in you
