@Atari

For a mildly similar prog rock/jazz sound you could try Sweet Smoke and Lucifer's Friend.

Alrighty!

First off, i like the idea you have to compare the band to the spider itself. I do feel it could be executed in a cleaner way, though, as the opening paragraph feels a bit awkwardly done. I almost feel like this review could just start with your second paragraph, where it says "Black Widow...". It's good to have an interesting point to open up the review, but there's nothing wrong with starting off with a bit of a history either.

"the listening experience isn’t any less exciting. This is thanks in part to the fantastic vocals of Kip Trevor who helped spice up the band’s debut."

The first part here isn't as descriptive as I'd like-- maybe go with something a bit more meaningful, like "the album is still one hell of a ride." And I'd shy away from descriptors like "fantastic"-- it's always a good idea to pick a descriptive adjective in these instances. Maybe crisp, clear, gritty, etc. whatever applies to his voice

"t also seems to be the creative use of organs"

Try to take out most qualifiers from your reviews, because they diminish the potency. Here, I'd say "it's the creative use of organs."

"they will be blown away by the funky nature of ‘Poser’"

You could just say "the funky "Poser"" here.

"Kip Trevor also lets out his most demanding vocal performance on the record as he loudly sings against posers"

This last part feels awkward, because it isn't elaborated, but it's also too blatant. You could probably leave it out. I really like the way you write at the end of paragraph 3, though-- try to use that type of description in future reviews more, because you're good at it

"it contains some breathtaking saxophone work courtesy of Clive Jones. Although Jones sounds great throughout the album as he spices songs up with flutes and the sax, he really steals the show on the album’s opener, getting things off to a strong start."

This is good, except I'd stay away from vaguely positive descriptors like "breathtaking," "great", etc. Also, "spices songs up with flutes and the sax" is a little confusing, because that statement doesn't explain how he's "spicing it up." Those instruments can be used to calm a song down as well, so you'd need to elaborate some here.

"once it does the infection begins to spread faster than a spider’s venom paralyzes its victims. "

This is still too blatant for your analogy to work-- you could just leave it at how it "infects" the listener, and it would be easier to take seriously.

Solid job, though-- this one feels more forced than other reviews I've read from you, though. Maybe it isn't in your comfort zone, I'm not sure. But just keep in mind everything I said here, and keep up the good work. All writers have to iron out the kinks before improving, and you're on the way to something good here, man. Hope I helped.

thanks for the feedback man I really appreciated it. These are things i would never notice if it wasn't pointed out to me so yeah it's definitely helpful.

"First off, i like the idea you have to compare the band to the spider itself. I do feel it could be executed in a cleaner way, though, as the opening paragraph feels a bit awkwardly done. I almost feel like this review could just start with your second paragraph"

I really liked my idea to open the review with the spider analogy cause it's something a little different. You have any suggestions on how I can word it differently or what makes it feel akward? thanks again!

The idea is different, sure, but I think if anyone spends a lot of time on such an analogy, it will feel really awkward. You have to be subtle with something like this, which makes it tough.

I would describe the music in a way that makes it sound like a spider, yknow, 'lethal', 'deadly', and then subtly say that its title makes a lot of sense, considering the album's sound. You can make an analogy without necessarily pointing out what it is to the readers.

okay man I didn't even realize it was akward lol. Is the summary too much too? Maybe you would have liked my simon and garfunkel review better it was more straightforward :3

The summary actually could just be its first half-- you don't need to keep the last bit, because the summary's first half is actually pretty strong alone.
