I was skeptical when they announced that they were going to be turning the children's book into a movie (as I usually am in that case) because the entire plot of the book would be a 10 minute film, max. So I knew that they were going to have to expand on the story, which makes sense, but I don't think that they added anything special to it. They tried to communicate something profound with all that added shit about them building a gigantic fort or whatever the fuck that was supposed to be, but they failed miserably. And, in doing so, they lost the original plot, which was simplistic in all the right ways. The movie barely even delivered the same message that the book did.
The soundtrack I associate with a disappointing movie so I never gave it a fair chance, honestly. Also, they had "Wake Up" (Arcade Fire) for the trailers, but never used it in the movie. I though they were going to, and I thought it would have been fitting, so I was pissed when it wasn't used.

The movie was good, but it lost its purpose after awhile.

yeah, it wasn't terrible, just kinda "fair to middling"
which, considering Where The Wild Things Are is the best children's book ever imo, is a very disappointing result. I'll admit that it looked nice, aesthetically pleasing or whatever, but I'm never going to bother watching it again after the first time.

I thought The Grinch was great, they completely nailed the premise of what that story is supposed to be all about. And, I know this is a divisive statement, but Jim Carrey knocked it out of the fucking park in that film.
