I got the promo for the band's new album tonight. Excited to spin it on the drive to class tomorrow.

Hahahaha.
The first moment of both Programmed and Apotheosis are EXACTLY the same. That is hilarious to me.

synth sections on this album are fantastic, especially in the parabolic.

I feel some Contortionist, Substructure, maybe even a little "Traced in Air"-era Cynic in here. Recommended.

Veil of Maya meets "Veil of Maya"
|

Coming back to this and God damn is it terrible. There's barely any sense of rhythm on this thing and everything sounds like it was created with a random number generator. Even the fuckin vocals sound out of tune with the music at times and are just randomly inserted at different points in the songs

I love you bloc. I, out of the blue, came back to this too after years. Then came here to see if anyone had posted recently.
You're not wrong man. I still appreciate the aesthetic they create. It's certainly a unique sound. But the song structures themselves blow ass. And the amount of repetition in the cleans is mind numbing.
That being said, I still was able to remember every single melody and riff as it happened. This was BURNED into my brain. I don't think I'll ever be able to dislike it despite its weaknesses.

Dude yesssssss
If there's anyone I can rely on to share the same opinion on something, it's you haha

Hell yeah! I think I realized that the week we wouldn't stop discussing Icarus the Owl's last album haha.
What did you think of Level 3? Re-listening now and it seems a little more bearable.
|
| |
So apparently the last time I heard Level 3 was in 2015 and I gave it a 3.5 but hell I could have just been in a good mood or something. Hearing this kinda turned me off the "tech metal" thing for a while so I probably won't be revisiting L3 any time soon.

Oh man. I thought I remembered L3 being a major improvement. How wrong I was. Finished it and...not good.
At least L2 had like 4 good songs that I'll still jam. L3 was an aimless, fever-dream, half-memory of a record. They dropped the synth, buried the vocals & drums and turns the guitars up. Then muddied the mix. Then wrote the same song 10 times and called it a record. I literally can't remember a single moment of it after listening last night. But hey, L3 at least was a sort of an intermediary between LCTR and Lessard flat out joining The Contortionist to make the type of music he was trying to make.
Hey, while I'm here, I gotta rec Voice of the Void by Anciients to you. You might dig it. Old Mastodon meets Opeth. It's sick.

Haha, thanks for taking the bullet man
I heard the band name before, I will def check them out.

Unpopular opinion: This is better than all of The Contortionist's records.

Wrong and I will give you no chance to reason
