Bottom Death Valley, Karasu(could make a perfect intro song that leads to Unraveling), Unknown, Kasumi are all top notch.

I personally thought every re-working was amazing. Both versions of every song are great in their own right. Such a rare thing.
I felt some of their re-workings were a bit hit and miss, like Obscure, but evey song on this is great. Even The Final was done justice. haha

such a fucking good band

Only really weak song on here is The Unraveling, and even then it's not horrible, they just did the covers so well. I've been waiting for the MACABRE remake for a long time, and not only did they accent on the great points of the original, but also extended it without it feeling tacked on. The remakes on here have their differences, but also don't feel as disjointed as their previous remakes like Obscure. They took songs from various albums that utilized different songwriting techniques and made them work in their new style.
In short this mini album kicks ass.

"I thought the title track was a lot better than a lot of the stuff on DSS. Still dunno what I'm gonna rate this, though."
I agree. Although the title track isn't really the highlight of this for me (even though it is really good), it seems like the type of songs they were trying to go for on DSS but didn't quite accomplish.

It is a great little album. Looking forward to what the new album will be like too. I predict a little lets mind bending as DSS

Really don't agree with the review, but it was well written.
The only thing is it should be piqued their interested, not peaked.
The Final and Kasumi remakes, while great, seemed like the vocals didn't have nearly as much impact as
the originals. Other than that, they just seemed like tinkering for the sake of tinkering. I really
like the title track though, it's a typical rock Dir En Grey song.

Dir en grey stay heavy while incorporating stronger melodies and wild song structures. Off-timing "masters" have nothing on these guys.

DSS not experimental? Talk about the blind leading the blind; but then again, western fans also consider shitty masterings (URO) "experimental" nowadays, so why should I be surprised?
Hopefully they didn't utterly ruin their old songs here; you can graft only so much pandering western pseudo thrash to an older song before your ears walk away bored.

When did i ever say DSS wasn't experimental?

WHAT?! I just found this out! Must check it out!

"DSS mostly fixed that but *sacrificed a lot of their experimentation and variety for tracks that the average modern metalhead heard 100 times before*"
There. Like, right there.

That doesn't say it isn't experimental.

95% of this is very good, even the underwhelming title track (which sounds like a Lotus demo bside alternate take). The remake of MACABRE actually gives the original a run for it's money.
It really pisses me off they mangled the melody on Unknown...Lost...Despair, though; the Blitz version I think strikes a good balance between being heavy & melodic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGQErZ0s8y8
I still think the original is better though (you can hear the melody the clearest), but I'm not in denial of their visual-kei roots either so yea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF5xUGdPjJ4

Got this in the mail today, the European version with bonus tracks. Doesn't have the Macabre remake, but it's 50 minutes so it's basically a full album.

Macbre only came with the deluxe... which I refused to buy. It's a fucking sweet track though.

I agree but the version I got works very well as an album. I think I like all the remakes just as much as the originals.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but the album still slays.
