I'm not too huge on "Ride On" as of now but otherwise this is wonderful. The stretch from "A New Anhedonia" to "Down to Go" is where it's at... and so is "Terror in the Canyons"... and "Song for Zula" (love the "Ring of Fire" reference)

Ride On’s still an amazing song, “Take your greedy hands, honey lay them on me” is one of my favorite parts of the album.

“Christmas Down Under” and “Around the Horn” are probably my favorites, those are the only ones that really capture the Phossy magic for me. The album as a whole though just feels a bit too by the numbers.

That one's pretty good, feels kind of like a Here's To Taking It Easy outtake though.

It's far from a bad album on its own merits really, it just feels like a bit too much of a retread of past works and a bit too uninspired, especially given that it comes 5 and a half years after this album. Every album up to this point had a pretty unique feel to it that made each one individually worth returning to whereas I can trace a lot of the sounds and structures on the new one back to earlier ones. Still, glad to have Phossy back and it seems he's in a very happy period of his life what with the kid.

Thank you for giving it a chance! “Song For Zula” has gotten some much recognition (deservedly so) but I feel like the whole album gets really overlooked.

You should def check out some more of Phossy’s stuff. The newest one was underwhelming imo but basically everything before this is amazing too. Especially Pride, that one’s also a near-perfect nighttime campfire folk album, the best stuff there is every bit as good as the best stuff on this.

Pride and Here's to Taking It Easy have actually been on my list of albums to check for a while now! A bit of a cool story: one time, I played "Christmas Down Under" on my radio show, and one of my friends who was tuning in that night loved the song so much that he decided to listen to more Phossy! He wound up rec'ing me "Los Angeles" and I remember enjoying it

"Los Angeles" is the closer of Here's To, probably Phossy's best "rocker", he channels some major Neil Young vibes in that one. HTTIE, accordingly with its title, is his most upbeat/easygoing album, it's lovely too for sure even if it doesn't quite bring the feels like this or Pride do.

My Phosphorescent ranked is Muchacho (4.9) > Pride (4.7) > Here's To (4.2) > The Weight of Flight EP (4.0) > Aw Come Aw Wry (3.5) > C'est La Vie (3.2). Haven't actually heard his debut, need to get on that.
