The entire point of a review is to give your OPINION on music. If you don't like my opinion, feel free to write your own review.
And many MSI fans hate If, that's a fact. I never said no one did. its's just more people rag on that album than, say, Frankenstein Girls.

ALL DAT BOLLSHEET
CANT BE IGNORED
Seeing how the subject of hating latest MSI records has already popped up, what is the most common criticism for the "If" album?

I actually really enjoyed If. I guess it's slightly more accessible and cleaner that their earlier creations? I haven't really given Rebel or Tight the listens they deserve though.
Getting through this album at the moment, it oddly feels like they matured musically, but are trying a bit too hard to be offensive and off the wall like their earlier albums.
Fuck Machine seems just pointless and stuffed in just so they could relive the offbeat, ridiculously ridiculous and fun days of Faggot, Bitches...pretty much all of Frankenstein Girls.
But it just ends up sounding pointless and hollow.
Still inexplicably enjoyable though.

If you enjoyed "If" (pardon me), your next target for a full-length spin is "Rebel", I'd say it's objectively their best record, combining the agressive crazy spite of their early work and the catchy groove that was furthermore employed on "If".
Basically the same feelings about this one, MSI are still MSI and nothing more. Wouldn't say "maturity", it's Lil' Jimmy and Co but yeah, some tracks are filler, some tracks are quite good, all the tracks are fun to listen to and you'll probably give the album a couple of listens more when the mood is right (because MSI albums' replay value doesn't last long).
What is true though - Jimmy set some new high scores with his voice. Waiting for his collab with mr. Tankian.

Gawsh, what on earth possessed me to call anything MSI has ever done 'accessible' or 'mature?' I'm sorry, I really don't know what I was thinking. :'D
I think I meant 'mature' as in, they're slightly more comfortable with their music and what they're aiming for and the songs are more whole, or something. I've only really listened to the album once, and I guess the fact that it's just typical ol' MSI deserves appreciation since they've managed to stay as obnoxious, immature and fun as they always have.
I'll definitely be making my way through everything they've done at one point or another, because come on, heck, it's Mindless Self Indulgence, they deserve it just for being what they are.
As for Jimmy, I'm surprised he's still got it, or whatever 'it' is, being what, over forty these days? It's great to see he hasn't grown up, in my opinion. That's the biggest charm of MSI for me; they're weirdly timeless in their own odd way.

One can only hope they'll keep that coming. And touring. They're an Inferno live.

"These are some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard"
That's kind of the point of the band, they aren't serious at all

why have i heard of this group?

They covered Rush's "Tom Sawyer", the song works so much better with more energy behind it.

This album rules.
There are a couple of bangers on here that are going straight to my ipod.

It took me a long time to warm up to IF (probably around the 6th listen, with the first 3 listens being months apart from the later 3 listens), & I still like the album despite it being the slowest & possibly most "experimental" (I should really say slowest) MSI album to date, but this was an instant improvement.
Kickstarter is a helluva drug.
Every song on here is good, imo, but my favorite thing about this album is the flow: it starts out almost like 'If', but "regresses" album-wise for MSI (i.e. get's faster & harder in the middle, where it sounds more like You'll Rebel and prior) to the point where it's more beat & rap centric like their self-titled towards the end.

I feel like when you bother dissecting the lyrics, its like going to McDonalds and writing a review of a hamburger. Mindless Self Indulgence just is what it is. This is easily the best thing they have done since Frankenstein.
While I disagree with your assessment, I respect your right to write it. And I will not be reviewing it, because I am lazy.

Good return to form, although I have a somewhat opposite opinion. I think the front half is better. Well mostly everything before Hip Hop Rage. The last maybe 3 to 4 tracks lose me a little bit. But agreed. Great return to the more unhinged wild style they were known for
