"i mean, i'm honestly not into golden era rap that much."

me neither. if golden era is the 80s stuff. i like some of it but hip hop got much better by the early-mid 90s.

one my fav album of the late 90's, when the boombap was dying, is capital punishment. it's so massively underrated.

Last three tracks are probably the best

the fact that you keep comparing this to G Rap's Dead or Alive merely because it was the last album you reviewed is a bit silly.
also, if you're not a big fan of golden era rap, it's gonna be a long trip for you through these 100 albums

fair point on the kool g, i guess i just thought he worked as good as any to show why this album doesnt do it for me and the weirdly artificial / arbitrary nature of the list lends itself--for me--well to self-reference and sort of callbacks/updating myself sorta along the way as a reference point or something. i can see why its unfair though

by "not a big fan" of golden era rap i guess i more mean...i don't think it's the "golden era" i guess. there are a ton of great albums. although iirc the list narrows down more to early-mid '90s stuff anyways

yes to this review, i hope people will finally start coming around to the fact that a lot of "classic" old school rap is actually not that impressive.

you're right about that but although this isn't a classic, it is an outstanding album

I dunno. I always consider the fact that this album came out in 1989 when rap didn't really sound like this that much.

^^^^^ couldn't have said it better to me this is a pioneering album to the 90's hip hop sound! that's

why i feel 3.5 is to low for this imo easily a solid 4

Yeah this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The D.O.C. is said to have ghost wrote a large portion of Dr. Dre's the Chronic. Also to really analyze the lyrics and say barely anything about the production of this album is ridiculous. The sampling on this album was a game changer. The D.O.C. is without a doubt one of the most underrated in the game, and if it weren't for a car accident damaging his vocal cords, most people would know about him.
