I'd definately give this a 5, but its under a more personal rating. I remember when this album came out and I listened to it all summer; that and OK Computer. Thus this album holds a deep personal connection to me and as gay as it sounds, whenever I recall my early adolescence this is the first album I think of.
Similarily, its also probably one of the only albums that I still listen to since I've started listening to music. As I'm writing this I'm looking at my MASSIVE cd collection (450 and unfortunately growing), and to still come back to this cd after going through so many is an impressive feat.
In general this album is the perfect combination of alt-rock and pop, and IMO few, if no, other bands (or even Grohl himself) of the decade have been able to hold a candle to this.
But hey that just me.This Message Edited On 03.06.06

very neat review, but I just can't understand you don't rate Everlong as a recommended song...

i don't think so, it was carried by a great viseo but imo, the song isn't too good

Hey yer back!
I really don't like the Foo Fighters. They seem like pop rock to me, with some faux hard rock influences.

Remember, OK Computer was a 5, Grace was a 5, Wish You Were Here was a 5. So do you think that this is as good as those albums?

in all honesty - yes. OKC is a brilliant album, but I don't like the tourist, and pink floyd... hmmm i would rate WyWH a 4 to be honest.
this is one of the few albums I never tire of, along with Origin of Symmetry

Easily the band's most consistent album. whilst they still make some brilliant songs (best of you, pretender) they still haven't made a full album as good as this one.

There's a 10th anniversary edition of this album with heaps of bonus tracks!?!?!? Someone should review that. Oh, hang on a tick...

I disagree. I found the first somewhat boring.

Not sure what it is about this album, but absolutely, whole-heartedly, passionately, intensely, fucking LOVE this album. I mean, behind some metal classics, and a maybe "The Who Sings My Generation" this is my favorite album ever released. Oh god, just everything about this release. I am not usually a huge Foo Fighters fan, but something about the simplistic doll, right to the rocking Monkey Wrench, in to the calmly laid back rock of Hey, Johnny Park! just gets this album started. Every song is a new 90's classic in my book.

'Everlong' is strange. You can rock out to it or fall asleep to it.

Still their best song.
White Limo from the new album is pretty damn close though.
