I think I missed the post where you said you'd acknowledge my points in a rewrite. That would be cool in due time, but I'm just looking for a conversation about the album and your thoughts on her development as a songwriter. I could very well be wrong, I'm just curious as to why that one song needled you so.

Sorry, I am slowly leaving this site so hardly look back anymore. In the case of 22, Why would she employ some one to co-write songs that has history of producing tacky pop? That is what frustrates me about it. Martin is known for for making no. 1's but surely that's what Swift is searching for? Surely if she wanted to write good pop she could employ someone with better credentials? 22 just reaks of attention seeking radio playing wank. I am hoping she can make the swift to pop as songs like We Are Never (yes, i know - Martin co-wrote) are freaking catchy.

Haha nothing much to say, beg to differ. Especially on your comment re: Max Martin, I mean I'm not
the biggest fan of his style and especially his instrumentation, but if she's looking to fully and
finally make the transition to pop artist I can't think of a more appropriate collaborator. Outside
of "You Belong With Me" she never truly penetrated the pop charts until "We Are Never Getting Back
Together," though I admit my being in Canada may skew my perception. But if she's trying to reach
that next level of pop ubiquity teaming up with the producer of the biggest pop hits of this young
millennium and aping the style of Pink, Avril etc. seems like an efficient way to go about it.
It's fine to dislike it though and wish she wasn't taking her career in this direction. She's going
to have missteps as with every pop artist before her, it just so happens what are missteps in the
eyes of music nerds like you and I propel her career forward in terms of exposure, marketability,
sales, Cover Girl contracts etc.
I know if she wants to be immature I'd prefer she go all out and do something more in the vein of
"Picture to Burn," but I'm fine with "22" lyrically/thematically/musically if it's balanced by great
songs like "All Too Well" and "Treacherous" that feel and sound like the payoff to the potential she
promised as a teen.

I being Australian, completely agree with your pop power not really picking up after "Love Story" era till "We Are Never" era. Speak Now really didn't make out shores - except for "Mean"
Yeah, you can see how Martin is the man to go to for pop success but the Avril/Pink ripoff sound is just too much for me. Couldn't she just write on her own again Speak Now made so much sense.
I agree as seeing them as payoffs with All To Well" and "begin again" but it excites me that she still knows how to write decent music. Whereas "State of Grace" gives me hope that she can write more alternate music then sparkly pop. "22" is just not enjoyable like anything else Urgh
