If i had to classify this as anything, it would be hip hop.

I put it under Alternative.

Me as well. If this no where near hip hop.
I love the chorus to Clint Eastwood. That song is definitely a Gorillaz staple.

Mr. Entwistle, I have only heard about five songs off this album, but if I may make an informed opinion, I agree with nearly everything you stated. Nice Work.

As a lover of all good music from Vivaldi to Johnny Cash to Iron Maiden, I must say that this is one of my favorite albums of all time, and arguably the best album that I have heard since 40 OZ. of Freedom. Any trance DJ would kill to be able to synthesize styles and harmonies like this effort, and no rock band has the capability of being so complex yet so smooth. I feel that some of you have held back your true feelings about the album out of respect to the reviewer. Speak up for this true modern psychedelic masterpiece of whatever genre you would like to put it in.

This album has such a dirty, urban feel its impossible not to like it. 'Tomorrow Comes Today' is a perfect example of this. As to your comments about the ambient sounds, well sure they could get samey, but there are plenty of good beats and unusual lyrics (eg. Clint Eastwood) to keep the listener interested. 19-2000 remix is also v. cool. It IS patchy, but deserves more than 2.5 *:-)This Message Edited On 12.20.06

This CD is an aquired taste. At first, this CD was a 2 for me, with the only song that I appreciated was Clint Eastwood. But, as I listened to it more, I found it to be a much better CD than I thought. It is mainly composed as a soulful ballad. Songs like New Genius really speak to the emotional core.

It loses its luster after the first few listens. Most electronica loses its luster after the first few listens.

Quite a few people hold that opinion. It sometimes stems from the attitude that electronica isn't real music, or shallow, which I'd say is just crap. Anyway, this album is hardly 100% electronicaThis Message Edited On 12.07.07

Well first off I would like to say this is a good review. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I fully accept yours since you explained it well in this review.
The album definitely is patchy, a few duds, but it is good fun and I do quite enjoy it. I just find that they are my favorite hip-hop group because they incorporate all members so well and have a good variety in what they can do. The music is light and isn't to be taken way too seriously or even thought about too seriously. It just makes all more fun to listen to.
Now they ain't no Massive Attack or DJ Shadow, but they rival Daft Punk and any other trip-hop group any day.

Clint Eastwood is great! Yeah, ok, this is no way as good as their second album, but I would have said it was pretty good anyway. I haven't heard every track but it gets a 3/3.5 from me so far. Good review though, you backed up your points well. This Message Edited On 07.22.08
