yeah it's a shitty review, but people seemed to be getting down his throat exclusively for the brevity, not necessarily for how bad it was, so I asked.
|

Seems like you rated it a bit too high. The review seemed a little more mixed, or maybe it was just confusing. Saying that a record is good because of it's "enjoyment factor" is about the vaguest thing ever.

Agreed this review sucks. Now can we talk about the album?
I think its really quite good. Possibly their best since the new era/Brett rejoined. Its just fast, solid, melodic. I mean, what's not to like? A serious step up from Dissent of Man. I don't even think that's debatable, this is just way, way better.

In fairness, I think this album is much closer to their older stuff in sound than it is to their newer era stuff. I think your opinion might be influenced by which era you prefer. I prefer the older stuff, and I really see this album as a nice little blast back to that era. Most bands who attempt such a thing fall flat on their keys, but this is really well done.

Sorry man, I moreso meant "you" as in the broad you, or universal you as it were. I wasn't trying to presume your tastes specifically.
I do still think this album is more comparable to their older rather than newer stuff though, the sound is certainly reminiscent of their late 80's and early 90's material to me at least.

Haven't listened yet but don't see myself rating this higher than a 3.5
Kinda stoked now after reading donald's posts ^^^
Against the Grain and Suffer are their best easily

The album is good, but for me, this and New Maps Of Hell are the less great albums since the return to Epitaph.
"The Dissent Of Man. that record sucked so hard"
¿What? ¿Why?
The last songs are pretty weak, but the album is awesome!

As with all new BR albums:
1.) More than 5 listens to compare them
2.) No new album will be the "next classic album"
3.) Pre-album hype always disappoints & overshadows the material despite the new albums being very good for a band
that's been around this long.
Waiting until release day so the pre-release hype doesn't cloud judgement, but the album cover looks pretty cool, as
usual.

So, I've never actually listened to these guys. What albums should I check out?

This is no where near some of their earlier shit. It's a good album but I mean in the overall punk scene this shit really is not that great.
