The debut was definitely better for building a first impression.

vocals are fun for song or 2, instruments are pretty boring

I really want to like this, and the vocals are great, but I've only listened to one track and it sounds like nothing I haven't heard before. But yeah. The cleans are great.

Band could be incredible if they didn't write all standard 3-4 minute mainstream-esque songs.

Really do wish they would actually get back together. You can really tell this was simply the stuff they made for when they were in the controlling clutches of a label :p

First album had actual riffs and stuff, but this one is still alright, not nearly as good though

good review but the summary seems a little off. i think it would read better if it said "depth and flair" instead of "depth, flair."

and i'm a little confused, why is this band still releasing material if they're technically split up? is this just stuff they had left over? i liked "awake" off of their first album but the album got really repetitive once you'd listened to a few songs, hopefully this is a little more diverse but i'm sure it's still good as long as you can handle a little bit of cheesiness in your metal.

I don't know the technical details of how this album happened, but it's pretty damn kick-ass. "Lights" has one of the most immense choruses I've ever heard.

I disagree. I think if this band were to write 5+ minute "epics", they would get boring really fast. I have a strong feeling the novelty of this album will wear out on me in time either way, but so far some of the staying power of this album is the short song lengths.
