You know, I'm conflicted in my opinions of Zwan. I do like them, but I don't think they even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Pumpkins. Billy Corgan+Happy music doesn't work well. As someone in Alt. & Indie once said (I forget who) "That's a tricky one. On one hand, we have a band that sold tens of millions of albums, influenced countless others, and practically defined a generation. On the other, there's Zwan".

I kinda conflicted with this album.. there are some really catchy songs like "EL Sol" and "Heartsong". I downloaded five or six songs and liked them.. then there are other songs that dont add up to the album.
I think Billy Corgan is a big liar for always being anti jesus and then he writes a christian rock album. Why did they disband so quickly after releasing an album?

It's cheesy, but the quality of music is pretty high. I'd give it a 3.5/5. The instrumental part in 'mary star of the sea' is pretty awesome i think. Lyric, Heartsong and Baby Let's Rock strike me as other highlights.
I'm pretty sure that was Tangy being sarcastic.
It might have. Sounds like him. I thought he didn't like the Smashing Pumpkins though?

Nah, he likes them.
If you liked the bass (and violins) on Mer De Noms, be warned that you won't find more here.
Not to be picky but....
If you look at the liner notes for Mer De Noms the only song Paz did the bass for is Sleeping Beauty. The rest of the bass on the album was done by Billy Howerdel.
Anyway, Mary Star of the Sea isn't a bad album as such. It's just, like people have said, a bit too cheesy to be brilliant. The songs are all still catchy and well written. Although I will agree that quite a bit of the lyrical content leaves something to be desired.
And Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea is my favourite track on the album too. Then again, I've always liked long songs ;)

This is a bad album, but not awful. There are a few good moments, but I will agree that this is not good.

i dont like zwan at all, but then again, the sound of billy corgan's voice makes me want to vomit. i just hate it. its just about listenable on "bulletwith butterfly wings" but other than that, the guy just shouldnt sing. and his lyrics suck.
may seem harsh, but thats just my opinion.

I had been hearing from loads of SP fans I know & BC himself that Zwan wasn't
very good... so I decided to look up some of their songs on Youtube, which were
Honestly & Lyric. I loved what I heard, & I realized I had seen the video for Lyric
back in 2003, when I had no idea who SP, BC or any music really was.
I then 3 days later, picked up the album & loved every minute of it. Billy's voice on
this album is amazing, better than some of his SP stuff. The other members
gelled well together & made some pretty good songs. Overall this album isn't as
bad as everyone says it is, to be honest. All the albums released by SP people
after the spilt is worth a listen, except BC's solo album, it would take a lot to
stomach it.
I wish Zwan was still around though... I would've loved them to have made
another album, seeing how this one was so good

Good solid album Jesus I/Mary Star Of The Sea is the best song on here so I disagree with that part. But overall I like Machina better.

At first I wasn't sold on zwan, but after all this time; I finally get it. Billy is saving face and seeking god, but he is doing a hell of a job at it. A control freak like always; you never get a chance to hear or even discern anyone else on the album.
It's a shame really, after listening to all the bootlegs, none of the really great songs made it on the album. Only the happy, poppy ones. Zwan did have their dark moments "Riverview" and "Love is a Battlefield" to name a few.
The songs on the Spun soundtrack are a much better representation of the band overall I feel.
