I like newer Dream Theater a lot more than older Dream Theater haha

I am one of those weird people that loves this album and everything that Dream Theater has done but this is well written enough for me. Pos for you.

I am reading your review and that of jybt (another user I enjoy reading) and the differences in point of views is really interesting. It really shows that, after all, everything in music is a matter of perception. Well written review. Pos'd.

@Psychic, bloc: DT have been adding very heavy metal influences since ToT, and I think their
songwriting has been getting less interesting since then. There are obviously moments of brilliance on
each album, but the albums on the whole aren't solid enough.
@Zet thanks man. Yeah jybt's a great writer, I enjoy his reviews. I'm flattered my names in the same
sentence as his haha. And true, art is subjective isn't it. He's given this a 4.5 I think. Opinions.

Good review. I really like the allegory, especially since it does sum up (for me anyway), DT's career and the album. Definitely a more interesting way to read a review than most. Pos.
On the subject of DT though, I think they've painted themselves into a corner by solidifying the "DT sound'. At this point their upper ceiling is Rush's 'Clockwork Angels', assuming they renew their focus on songwriting. I don't see them truly breaking the mold.

Thanks Sitar. Yeah I second your opinion. They're too comfortable with their sound, and unfortunately
since fans enjoyed this album, the band might continue in this direction for a while. JPs in charge
now, and I think he's on a mission to prove that he can write the best riffs and solos, so the
compositions will reflect that. If Rudess and JM are allowed more freedom I think it'll be a lot more
interesting.
Also since you're a DT fan I hope you saw the DT puns in the review :P.

DT puns, ftw.
I remember when I first heard "Build Me Up...", I thought, "Oh boy, it's like the newer version of 'You Not Me'. -.- The more recent 'heavy' songs just give off the feeling that they're trying too hard.

crackin' review. It pops...hard

Didn't think it would be that bad, a little bland in places but still.

Good review, although i don't think its a 2,5. Aside from the horrendously boring ballads, the other tunes are actually quite strong. Outcry, Bridges in the sky, Lost not Forgotten and especially Breaking All Illusions are all 4-4,5 material imo.

Nice review, pos'd.
I'm not a big fan of this album either, although I haven't listened to it that much. Might give it another spin at some point.

@Sun2Moon Thaaank you, I'm glad someone noticed the puns, or mentioned that they did. So they weren't a total waste after all. Yeah I'm not enjoying the heavier songs, after Build Me Up I know what Disturbed would sound like with a keyboardist.
Thanks for the POS' guys, glad you enjoyed the review.

@Dimor, its too much of that tried and tested formula for me. Plus they limited themselves quite a bit by using the same song structure for 6 songs off of I&W.

I wonder when the next time it will be that these guys will actually do something new with their sound

On the Backs of Angels is aight, the riff for the second verse is killer.

I suggest you listen to Awake, Scenes from a memory, Images and Words, Six degrees, Train of thought and systematic chaos.
Probably in that order too.

Well this uses similar song structures for 6 I&W songs
