Take Been Away For Too Long away from this and it's an easy 4.5. This is a fucking awesome record

Bones of Birds is easily the best track though

It would've been a 4.5 for me if it wasn't for the first track. It's not bad musically, but the lyrics and the theme don't fit with the rest of the album.

I just deleted the first track and pretended it never existed... lol

Soundgarden sounding like nowadays bands: linear sound, no hooks, no catchy riffs.
Good album anyways.

I disagree about DOTU being a lackluster album. It was as good as their classic albums. King Animal is a fantastic return. It's got its own vibe as all their albums do and it's very consistent all throughout.
| was a bit skeptical after the Avengers song and Been Away Too Long, but this is classic Soundgarden.

You obviously haven't listened to the record at all. This is incredibly consistent and just as weird and interesting as their other records. With that said, it looks to have some incredible tracks that stand among their best (Bones of Birds, A Thousand Days Before)

This might grow on me even more as the week goes by. Very strong album, and "A Thousand Days Before" and "Blood on the Valley Floor" are just fantastic.

Great, fucking great review no staff should write anything else. I will listen to this right now.
EDIT: OMG I'm really excited OMG OMG

This album is utterly fantastic and a true return to form. I might even be tempted to say that it's better than AIC's last one. This shit simply slays for days

They've still got it.

Thanks, everybody!
It IS better than AIC's album. I'm sorry, BGWTB is a solid record, but King Animal is in a different
league.

Hmmm... I agree with truekebabpower:
"this deffinitely doesn't top the last 3 albums and overall I find it good but not excellent, the only song that grips me is Bones of Birds. The songs just don't seem as emotional to me or catchy for that matter and they've lost some of their gloom it seems. Cameron doesn't dissappoint though."
I was hoping to hear something with a bit more power and darkness. Surprising, that Thayil has worked Sunn O))) but didn't inject much darkness here. Cornell did okay but he's come off as softer than previous SG efforts. As I mentioned somewhere else, listen to the best songs off this album, and then compare them to the 'bonus tracks' Black Rain and Birth Ritual off Telephantasm. That tells you everything.

Holy shit can't believe this is getting such positive reactions from you dudes, I am now officially pumped for this

always preferred Cornell's voice in lower octaves, I sometimes feels like he's straining his voice at times on this album as if to say it doesn't carry the way it used to, but otherwise, an incredible album instrumentally and well put together. Just hard getting used to his new vocal style. lol

Tells me that the KA songs are better. Sure they're more understated, but the songwriting is excellent.

That sums up this album perfectly. Couldn't have said it better.
