A nice crisp guitar sound, and the melodies are interwoven beautifully. For a debut this is pretty damn good!

A great introduction to the world and career of alice in chains (though their first EP had been released before this album), in which much of their variety and talent is shown. The slow, groovy guitar work of 'We die Young' and 'Real thing' makes way for the slow-burning, mid-tempo drum work and bass in pretty much every other song. Staley's vocals were not yet at their peak, but nonetheless here fit the nature of the music perfectly.

Their best album IMO, Dirt sounded too refined an planned for my taste, this felt more exciting and heavier while still being wrapped in a skin of grunge

Mind you, Dirt and AIC are both masterpieces as well
