I let him have the last word in that other thread but he must just like drama.

Weak album, but far superior to the last two.

And without being the 15th jackass to point out "Dur hur you said Scars twice", Scars sucked ass. One of their bigger hits, not one of their better songs, and for Papa Roach that's saying something.

"frontman Jacoby Shaddix was suicidal during the recording process"

Probably cause his band is awful.

"Pop metal"

No. Don't use Papa Roach and metal on the same sentence.

Also, I doubt Engage is as ridiculously pointless as Foreword off "Meteora". Most. Pointless. Track division. EVER.

I'm somewhat curious. Where is the line between hard rock and metal drawn? Because I view the early catalogue of this as hard rock, but some refer to it as nu-metal because of the rapped lyrics.

Opinions?

Nu-metal = downtuned guitars, rapping, processed angst, swearing.

Hard rock = crunchy guitars, mid-tempos, semi-melodic vocals, catchy choruses, sparse production, a bit of blues, maybe keyboards in some cases.

Metal = everything harder than the above. Fast tempos and/or heavy guitars and/or garbled-screamed-growled vocals (depending on style, it may have one or all of these things).

Then there's hard'n'heavy, which straddles the line between hard rock and metal (i.e. NWOBHM).

As for this, it was nu-metal on Infest, became mainstream/FM rock after that.

They can't be seen as anything other than generic mainstream rock at this point

Their early shit is definitely nu-metal. Papa Roach just shamefully jump on the bandwagon of whatever genre is popular at the time.

I'd say the line between hard rock and metal is when it becomes... HEAVY.

But AC/DC is kinda heavy and they're a hard rock band. Same with Zeppelin or solo Ozzy Osbourne.

They are not heavy. They are hard rock. Pretty much the definition of hard rock. They are the pioneers of metal though.
