De gustibus non est disputandum, so I respect your review and also call it well written. I don't agree, however, that it is as bad as you make it sound.
I found it really enjoyable.
And i really can't understand how anyone could dismiss this album solely because most songs are in French. Therion's been known for their use of different languages and that's one thing that makes the band special for me. They have songs in Swedish, German, Latin and some other weird languages. So why not French?

I remember looking into these guys a long time ago and I don't remember much, probably because they sucked then as much as their newer orchestrated shit.

Oh their discography always had its lows, but it won't hurt to give Theli a chance.

I will if it doesn't annoy me after one song.
|

eheh if you get annoyed after one song, then it's really no use to insist, since all songs more or less follow the same structure. Hope you like it though.

While their latest two albums have been pretty bad, I never understood the straight-up distaste for their entire discography. People always point to Theli and their older stuff, but what about Lemuria and Sirius B? Tell me that the ending of the latter album isn't an epic way to end a pretty damn good album:

I feel like this song has it all. It's epic, catchy, rocks hard, and is beautiful all at the same time. They have countless songs like this, especially in their post 2000 works. Give 'em a chance, just don't start off with Shitra Ahra or Les Fleurs Du Poopie.

Oh I actually like Sirius B quite a lot, much more than Lemuria.
I'd go Like:
Theli
Vovin
Sirius B
Runes
Lepaca
Lemuria
Symohonic part of A'Arab
Sanctorum
Masses
Gothic
Sitra A
Haven't heard the whole Deggial and Of Darkness.

I wasn't calling you out specifically Dream, but I was reminded about how often I hear about how bad all their albums are or how they have only one good record. I always wonder how that can be!
Gothic Kabbalah is quite long and has some meh songs and annoying parts but I think it's a great album. Even the songs with annoying bits ("Der Mitternachtslowe", "Tuna", "The Wand of Abaris, etc") have something to offer or something worth singing along to.
And songs like "The Perennial Sophia", "Trul", and "Path To Arcady" are truly great songs (what songs can we call great on the last two records?). And the experience of the album as a whole journey, however laborious and with its quirks and flaws, is actually quite rewarding. It can't touch something like Sirius B, but I could never put it near the same level as Sitra or Fleurs, which are so boring and/or bad that they are actually a chore for me to listen to all the way through.

I know man, but since you mentioned the lack of love for Sirius B (which is true at some degree), I felt like reinforcing your idea.
I really tried to like GK, but for some reason it doesn't click on me. It's not terrible (far from it), but nothing really grabs me, apart from the single. Who knows maybe one day I'll understand that record.
(btw my list is wong, GK is above Masses)

I just had to do a review of Sirius B because all of this made me really think about what it is that makes a great Therion album so great, compared to the crap albums that just fall on their faces despite having many of the same elements. Hopefully some folks share my perspective on, and connection with, that album!

Great review, I like this album as much as their last one (I don't).

I will if it doesn't annoy me after one song.
Just for a song I would recommend The Siren of the Woods from Theli, this is really beautiful.

Therion is an amazing band, but it wholly depends on the type of person you are. For some it will always be "ridiculous and awkward heavy metal for nerds and old people". They do have some incredible songs, though.

Another great release by Therion. I may come back to this once I have more time and write a full review.

It's a very bad review, because the author DON'T know that it is a "COVER ALBUM"!!!
There are only cover versions of old french chansons on it. And they are done very well into the Therion-Style!!

Como on people this album is great!
I don't know way every time Therion give us something new a lot of people doesn't understand it and start talking really bad about it. it has happened specially with Theli, Vovin, secret of the runes, gothic Kabbalah and sitra Ahra. Some of these people grew up and now they can see this albums are great. Same thing is happening with "Les fleurs du mal". some people say it is the worst album ever but they said the same about Theli back in the day and nowadays Theli is The Mighty Theli! See the difference ?
Soon, people is going to notice that this is an amazing album. It's like sex the more you do it, the better it gets. So listen to it, the more you listen to it, the more you will understand. Unless some of you are still virgin, well you guys won't understand.
This is for mature minds
