Hi Greg! Great review like always. I've heard of these guys a few months ago, didn't know they have a new album coming out. They are cool and sound similar to Motorjesus (IMO). I have to get this. The singer is really cool haha, I love that beard.

"Don't worry man, there are quite a few people in here who dig this sound."
WWHHHHHHYYYYYYY!!!!????!!!

They always play "Turn It Up" from this band on IO MusicChoice. It just sounds like a poppier Pantera.

@1drummer:
There are many people who like it actually. I haven't come across a negative review of this thus far. Still I have no idea why you're so "infuriated". This is only music which you don't have to listen to if you don't want to.
@Voivod:
Thanks mate. I hvaen't heard of Phase Reverse. Is that something I'd like?
@YankeeDudel:
Well. I can't really argue with that.

Phase Reverse are something between Soundgarden and Black Label Society, although they don't feel like a rip-off of both.
Their debut album came out in 2009 from an Hellenic label - the band is also from Hellas - and recently Aural Music bought the album for a worldwide re-release.
I'm jamming the first edition of this album, the worldwide re-release will have one track more compared to the first edition, and atm they are easily a 3.5/5.

@greg84
I know man... This is a group of men, far past their prime, doing the exact same thing that has been done a million times over. This time the vocals and lyrics are even worse than their predecessors, their presence is laughable, and I've heard every guitar line so many times before. I don't understand why people want the same shit over and over again. If music is art, witch it is... this is fucking kindergarten finger paints, done badly.

@Voivod:
Cool. It sounds like something I'd enjoy. There are a couple of Greek bands I already enjoy. Planet Of Zeus is probably my favorite.
@1drummer:
You're right this is absolutely nothing new under the sun, but still you can say it about most music being promoted nowadays. I try to assess music on the grounds of what it tries to achieve, which in this case is exploitative fun. You can't really compare THC to some progressive rock acts whose music is obviously much more ambitious and innovative.

"You can't really compare THC to some progressive rock acts whose music is obviously much more ambitious and innovative."
That's exactly right. These guys are just having fun. They're not aspiring to be anything they're not, nor are they attempting any sort of innovation. Disregard any pretenses you might have and you may find yourself having some fun.

funny band name, probably will check this... good review
|

Good review, I just don't agree win any of your points. Very well written though.
|
| |
lol the fuck is this
|
| |
"calling these guys outlaws is like calling bernie madoff a master thief"
If anyone was a master thief it was Bernie Madoff (wit yo money) so these guys actually are outlaws?
and greg when you say the lyrics are crude how do you mean?

power groove metal that was originated by formidable Pantera.

@emim:
Thanks and fixed.
@Calc:
primitive and straight-forward
|

I definitely dig Southern metal, but there is that point at which it just becomes too meat-headed. I'll check this out though.
|
| |
I have heard some of their older stuff, and of course I still have yet to see them even down here in Texas. It is very southern fried rock y'all! I am going to see your boys in Dixie Witch tomorrow, they are showing the Pentagram: Bobby story doc, and they are having bands play after the movie. Good review, Greg! Review our EP, haha, joking.
|
| |
Greg, you write the most concise and coherent reviews on this site. I appreciate the fact that you delve into the points of the album that may be more polarizing than endearing. That's the part of any album that I might consider before listening. Once again, thanks for reviewing something that normally flies under the radar. Will check. POS.

"...they are showing the Pentagram: Bobby story doc, and they are having bands play after the movie"
^This sounds awesome man. I'd like to attend this event with you. Thanks a bunch.
@drewcordova:
Much appreciated dude. These are the points I found crucial to discuss when it comes to these guys. Glad that you noticed that it's not an overhelmingly positive review. Thanks for reading.

lol rednecks, sorry. sounds exactly like Hellyeah or Black Label Society only worse and I'm not particularly fond of the two. I know these guys are just havin' fun, but it's hardly a worthy excuse. That band Voivod mentioned Phase Reverse sounds way more promising.
