great review, by the way i fought the law was a cover, it was all originally writen by sonny curtis. tory crimes's real name is terry chimes and is now a ciropractor (excuse the spelling). also police and theives was written by lee perry, its a reggea song by women, or a castrated man. complete control is the clash's best song ever

i fought the law was a cover, it was all originally writen by sonny curtis.
It was made popular by by bobby fuller four, but yes, it was written by Sonny Curtis, and first done by The Crickets, after Buddy Holly died.
also police and theives was written by lee perry, its a reggea song by women, or a castrated man.
It first played by Junior Murvin and was written by him and Perry.
and yes Complete Control is a great song, maybe not the clash's all time best, but one of them. This Message Edited On 07.17.06This Message Edited On 07.18.06

I bought this browsing a Barns N' Noble. I loved the Pistols, so why not? I put this in and it blew them away, miles away. Not only do (did) they have something to say, they also write some sweet music.

I really don't find anything the same at all between The Clash and The Pistols, with the exception of the odd song from their debut (like Clash City Rockers), and that they came out at the same time. Thats all really. Musically, lyrically The Clash were better than them in everyway. This Message Edited On 08.21.06

The big difference was a little thing called talent. I still dig what I know from the Pistols though, the Clash just beat them in every way possible to be beaten.
This is a really good album. Anyone else notice the difference in sound of Clash City Rockers and everything else?
Not one bad song on here.

Best UK punk album of all time. The songwriting on this is 10000x better than Never Mind The Bollocks, the lyrics are superior also.

Raw PUNK. Both the UK and US release have great track lists, but the US version is more consistent.
This album has some great riffs (Clash City Rockers - US), backup vocals, drumming, and awesome bass (Police & Thieves).
Janie Jones is one of the best punk songs ever. Joe's sneering vocals and that killer bassline make the song.
Although not written by The Clash, I Fought The Law is an ace cover that captures what punk is about.
Police & Thieves as mentioned has a great driving bassline. A magnificent cover of an awesome reggae tune. The Clash would expand their style with similar songs on the later albums.
Outstanding timeless punk album.
