Coming from Detroit, I am a huge fan of the White Stripes. Here, these guys are huge. We all respect what they are doing for garage rock. Detroit was the home of garage rock and the album "Elephant" keeps that style going. Although, a slight change on their next album would be awesome.

she knows when NOT to play.

You say that if they just recorded this album off the tops of their heads. Of course she knows when not to play, they rehearse their music. You should also read the How to make a review thread. You left out an overall rating. You need more detail on the songs, not just whether or not you liked them.

I hated this for a while, mainly because Seven Nation Army was so overplayed, but I decided to give it another chance about a week ago, and now I have to agree...it was one of the best albums of last year imo.

Ok i hate to sound like a douche, but I cant stand the white stripes... But im not going to rip on them because I respect any musician who can make it in the industry... they deserve credit for that.... and i CANNOT stand 7 Nation Army, its catchy about the first 3 times you hear it but after that it gets sooo old

Seven Nation Army was definately the best song of 2002 (or 2003, can't remember). It's so simple and catchy. I think Meg should do some bass on a song maybe, the guitar and drum formula will get tired eventually. I will say that they do try different things and have come up up with some great songs.

That is exactly what I did/thought. I don't think I dislike it as much as you though. And man, people should really check out the self titled debut, it is really really great.
I really don't get any of the hype or plaudits for this album. I thought it was the most disappointing thing I've ever heard.
I was disappointed with this album too, but I think for me the Most Disappointing crown taken by The Strokes.

Elephant and Is This It? were my first experience with both bands, I just meant that at least there were a couple of Elephant tracks I liked.

Meg does a great job with her simple drumming on the verses.

Anyone could do a great job with the way she drums... it is amazing how jack actually has some skills with the guitar and she... just can't drum. oh well, not evry band can have john bonham ;-)

Anyway, pretty average review, horrible album. None of the stuff sounds very good... i don't really know how else to explain it.

It's a good album, but I think you're giving Meg White way too much credit. She's one of the simplest drummers I've ever heard, very repetitious. Jack White is a solid guitarist, not much of a singer though. This group is overrated IMO, Spin Magazine worships the ground they walk on.

All that stuff about Seven Nation Army being played too much? Pah!
That song was the reason I got into music and Elephant was the first album I acyually sat down and LISTENED to, rather than just having it on in the background. As a result, Jack White is the reason I started playing guitar.

Without this album, I would be a different person. Surely an album that has the power to do that deserves one hell of a lot of positive feedback, yes?

And yes, for a short period of time I got bored of Seven Nation Army, before realising that it does in fact ROCK. More than anything else I know.
Yeah, some people will disagree, but this is just one opinion of a crazy dude you don't know, so what does it matter?

the white stripes are okay... but a frien of mine bought this album an to be honest it is a little crap, okay its really bad. But seven nation army rules. Meg white is proof that not all female rock stars are attractive. :D

"Seven Nation Army" is the worst song on this album.
