I'm not really impressed with the review, but I do agree with this being one of the most over rated albums ever to grace this planet.

I think you should try being more subjective in your reviews, or put things differently. People will always share differing opinions on a subject, so instead of saying "The sad fact is, with Kurt’s nasal voice providing irritating vocals that are accompanied by simple, chunky guitar riffs, this album can’t be enjoyable."

When you could say something like. "Kurt's voice has a tendency to become quite nasaly at times, which may put off some listeners. Whilst the simple and chunky guitar riffs make this an album more suited to the mainstream than those wanting huge technical solos."

For someone whos already heard the album, this was quite good. But I still don't think you went into enough detail about the tracks. Smells Like Teen Spirit hardly got a mention at all.

Nevermind is a fantastic rock n roll record. It captures the spirit of punk rock perfectly and packages it up in great songs with some of the richest pop hooks imaginable. It's not a musicians album. It's not a groundbreaking album, musically speaking. But it's an album with one eye looking back and one eye looking forward, and it delivers it all in a pill that is easy to swallow. If you don't appreciate a good, simple pop hook, you won't appreciate this album. But it's certainly far more worthy then a rating of 2/poor. And rather then "uninspired, simple, and boring" I would say it's inspired, simple, and stimulating/exciting. And it deserves more credit then this review gives it.This Message Edited On 01.30.06

I find it odd that some people are saying it's one of the worst albums they've ever heard. If that's true they really need to expand their horizons a bit. There are so many bad albums out there it's not even funny.

It's impact on the music industry aside, and ignoring the popularity factor (which isn't an issue with me anyway) this is still a great album. From a guitarists point of view, yes, it's dumbed down, simple, and not very technical. But that's also never been a main point for me. If they write good songs, which they did, it doesn't matter about how many guitar tricks they know.

If good music was soley determined on how difficult it is to play we'd all listen to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai all day every day and nothing else.

And I've never bought a CD of a virtuoso because yes they are good but the songs are nothing but a 7 minute long guitar solo so it's boring.

That's not the point of why I don't like it. Many songs are boring, and fail to gain my attention. The style of Kurt's playing is what I don't like, not that it's simple. I do recomend this album to persons getting into guitar however. I'm starting out, and this is good for beginners. Plus, the drums, and bass are just as simple. Then I don't like his voice on over half the songs. I hope you understand now why I don't like this, although if you read the review, I say the same thing.
And what do you mean most of the album is filler? Maybe three songs are filler (Lounge Act, On A Plain, and Territorial Pissings).

And without Nirvana, there would be no Bush!
Polly, Lounge Act, Stay Away, On A Plain, and Something In The Way. Lithium too, sort of.

Bush took what Nirvana had started, and built on that, with fantastic songs. Intsitute are pretty good too.

Bush took what Nirvana started and ruined it to the point of no return. I really don't understand your point of view. Lounge Act, Something In The Way, Lithium, and especially On A Plain, good solid tracks, all. Bush couldn't touch Nirvana in thier wildest dreams. My considered opinion. This Message Edited On 01.30.06

This is a rather poor, overly-opinionated review, but I do agree, Nevermind is overrated and In Utero pwns it in every concievable way. Not to mention that it basically opened up punk rock to the mainstream which, in my opinion, killed the genre's credibility permanently and doomed us to this current pop-punk/screamo/metalcore hell of today's mainstream music.

However, to say that this album isn't one of the best pop albums ever made is borderline insane. It's catchy as hell, aggressive, raw despite its slick production, and the songs are far stronger and more distinctive than most music out today. And I think Kurt has a great voice, actually. It's naturally melodic and he was great at screaming on pitch, which isn't very easy OR common in today's scream-heavy music scenes. And in terms of technique, let's see you make whole songs with nothing but feedback like Kurt did, or better yet, try to write a song like "Teen Spirit". There's a difference between being a crappy guitar player and playing tastefully.

Either way, the impact of this album can't be denied, and it's better than Poison, Ratt, Whitesnake, or any of the crap it replaced.

3.5/5

^^Yeah, that's true. And I wanted to check back in to say as much. And of course I don't expect you to share my opinion or like the album as much as I or others might. But the review seems to over look some important elements of what makes this album somewhat exceptional, or disregard those elements altogether. This Message Edited On 01.30.06

Metaldude, that's a somewhat silly remark. Nirvana was successful before Kurt died. And in fact most likely would of been even more so had he not.

How are any of those song's filler? Polly is a great song, and one of Nirvana's most played song's, Something In the way is really great too, Lithium is definetley not. Just because you don't like those song's does not make them filler.

And even funnier, you gave far better ratings to Fall Out Boy (aka CRAP) and Chevelle's (aka Diet Tool) latest albums )Cork Tree and This Type Of Thinking, respectively, which are two of the more derivative, unoriginal bands/releases of the past couple years, not to mention that both bands write highly simplistic, often-shameless copies of better bands' songs, without a shred of the talent of said bands.

Nirvana grudge? I think so.

Make your review a little less biased and you'll be on to something.

Hmm...
I dont hate Nirvana, although I find them hideously overrated. I think it's degusting that so many people think they "invented" grunge. In fact out of every grunge band, they are the worst.

it's funny how right you are spat
